We knew abandoned by the British Government, but we still loyal and show highest respect to the Royal Family. All British soldiers, Gurkha soldiers and veteran are our comrade. As a Hong Konger, we love both United Kingdom and china. Both are our countries. I am fortune to serve in the British (Hong Kong ) armed force and this is my honour, I thank you the British army instructor taught me the battle skills.

@sisspymaster I agree with you, loyal to British emperor better than believe the communist party. We are fromer British (Hong Kong) soldiers. We show highest respect to Royal Family .

@sisspymaster: No doubt about that, but comparing the UK with the Autocratic Regime in China is an insult. The Monarchy in the UK is just constitutional and the country is de facto a full democracy, while China is an autocratic country ruled by a one-party regime and its red emperor up in Peking. God Bless The Free World

One-party?Bullshit. Do you really know that Chinese people have many different democratic parts like Chinese Democratic Alliance and Jiusan Society? You have never been to China before you said these lies. You are a lier like Trump.

My Dad was part of HKMSC from 1989 - 1992 - was this on the sports ground on Stonecutters Island? The buildings in the background weren't there when we lived there.

Maddie D This footage was filmed in 1996, and the base was not yet complete in 1992, which is most likely why. Thank you and your father for serving Hong Kong. It is a shame to see this rich history brushed under the carpet by the party.

It should be mentioned that when HK was a British territory, the population was 98% ethnic Chinese (only a few thousand of the other 2% were British), even though they lived in a British territory, the majority of people couldn't speak English, nor did they have a right to live in the UK, they didn't have a British passport issued to them and they didn't have democracy. The history of HK as a British territory has been amazing, but the majority of its success is down to the hardworking local people and the people from other parts of China. The British government didn't really care about the people of HK and the British people didn't consider the HK people to be British like themselves. Hong Kong was almost unique in British colonial history because it was returned to another sovereign country instead of being granted independence, but the truth is that the acquisition of HK by the British government was achieved by coercion and was partly because of the trade in addictive drugs, the British government never granted the people of HK equal citizenship and the right to migrate to the UK, free elections didn't really exist, the legal system was unfair to the vast majority of the local people who could speak English, etc etc.. so anyone who now criticises the PRC government should remember that the British government and the HK colonial government was not that different.

Those are in major people who thought that it was a golden age under British rule, when they did not see or suffered the racism we all had to undergo. Even toilets in British companies were divided into toilets for the British and toilets for the Chinese. Chinese managers cannot even venture into the Canteens of the whites. If you are a white Brit, you are automatically an inspector if you join the police force, but not for the poor locals. All top Government jobs and top jobs in British companies were for the white Brits.

The major reason of british Hong Kong's lack of democractions is because the pressure from the CCP in the 50s to 70s, the colonial government actually has a plan called "the young plan" to democratise hong Kong, eventually stopped by the growing pressure from mainland and the rise of iron curtain
