HLOM Java with Joe E.: Ryan Duffy, "Captain Charles Rand: First Volunteer of the Civil War"

HLOM Museum Director Ryan Duffy shares the life and accomplishments of one of Batavia's and Genesee County's foremost Civil War Heroes, Charles Rand. Rand is often credited with being the "First Volunteer of the Civil War" and is a Medal of Honor recipient. However, he accomplished so much more than just his military career. He was also a journalist, bureaucrat, and medical doctor. Not to mention philanthropist and supporter of local cultural and historical efforts, even though he resided in the nation's capital.
