I have 50040, which is fantastic, but I needed to cut away my backscene at one end a little bit because unlike the 08s and HST, the 50s have a raised vent (or whatever it is) on the roof, which didn't clear the opening. It's a shame Hornby haven't released a mk1 buffet, which is essential for almost any mk2 formation.

So, is the class 50 too tall, or are the Mk2 coaches too low? Something looks really off there...

Loco is raised a bit on its bogies so the wheels don't contact the body sides on turns. That's one of the drawbacks of having the correct wider gauge when compared to OO. The only practical solution would be fitting under-scale wheels to the loco.

Can anyone tell me what rolling stock the Green Class 50 hauled when in service in that livery?

It ran with blue and grey, Network SouthEast and InterCity liveried Mk 2 stock. The air-conditioned Mk 2s from Hornby for TT:120 were seen behind 50007 in this condition.

I bought a Sir Edward Elgar class 50 . And it ran for about 5 times round my circuit then stopped and one end only spinning wheels. So i took it back to retailer who replace it and the replacement did the exact same thing. It runs fine then stops and wheel spins. So tomorrow (monday) i’m going to demand my money back. Obviously a factory bad quality control. 😢

Sounds like one of the cardan shafts has popped out. Usually refitting is all it needs and sometimes a slight adjustment of the drive pocket by about .5mm. Obviously disappointing when it happens but a fairly straightforward fix with Hornby or a handy modeller and it won’t happen again.
