Hot off the press I review the brand new Class 50 from Hornby’s TT:120 range!
Early Access: kzbin.info...
Shop: shop.thatmodelrailwayguy.com
This one is hot off the presses! The TT:120 community has only just gotten over the release of the long awaited Class 43 HST locomotives and now ‪@HornbyModelRailways‬ have provided us with another brand new loco to get us all excited. It is of course the Class 50 and boy does it look stunning - it takes more than detail and a nice livery to impress me though so it’ll be crucial to see how well this model runs. This is also a sound fitted model too pre-fitted with a HM7000 decoder and Hornby’s TT:120 profile for the Class 50.
With the sound and working lights this model features, it really does have everything going for it. The HST set the bar incredibly high for diesel locomotives in TT:120 though, so can Hornby live up to their previous reputation with the Class 50? There’s only one way to find out so watch along as I give the Class 50 a detailed looking over and a test run on my TT:120 model railway!

Picked up the green one at the weekend, what a stunning model it is, with the mk2 coaches make a fab train. TT is really starting to take shape now, great review, nice and slick 👍

Awesome! Yeah it really feels like it's picking up now - like I said in the video, if you had this Class 50 and the Blue 08 and HST you'd have the basis of a really nice diesel themed layout there. Thanks for watching 😃

TT scale would be a great scale to start as a first scale but I would never switch from OO and HO scale. Looks tempting though! Great video mate.

And I don't think Hornby and PECO are trying to get anyone to switch. Hornby at least have said multiple times that they're focussed more on new modellers and that seems to line up with the majority of people I've spoken to who have started with TT. Thanks for watching 😃

Hornby certainly seem to be launching some great additions to the developing range. This class 50 appears well thought out as do many others of the TT:120 range. Perhaps they are benefitting from starting from scratch with each model and not tempted or needing to reuse and redesign old models as tends to be the case with some of their 00 scale units.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy 25 күн бұрын
They do seem to be finding their feet more and more with TT:120. I do think most of the models so far are based on those they have existing research and design work for. The A3, A4s, Class 08, HST and Class 50 all fall into that category and it seems like the upcoming J50 was chosen based on the success of their previous 00 gauge model too. Thanks for watching 🤩

Excellent review of the TT120 Class 50 👍👍 I’m impressed with this nice looking Class 50 in this scale and I really like to get back to do more & more TT120 as I only got the first of the two train set that Hornby done. I really like this scale as there so much advantages when living in a small place. It doesn’t what size of the board will be, I’ve just want to have this scale just for fun & amazement time.

I do feel like TT:120 is the perfect scale for just having a bit of fun. There's no pressure to create a perfect scale model and like you said the size of the layout doesn't matter. If you're going to get back into TT now is a pretty good time with all the recent releases and more to come throughout the year. Thanks for watching 😃

I think hornby were smart on working on a tt scale. I just got back to railway modelling because well, I never started because of space but now I have a nice large room to work on a medium 00 gauge layout. Can't wait to start working on it!
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Ай бұрын
I can definitely see what they're doing with it - it's a smaller scale but they've definitely more into the "beginner friendly" side of things which I don't feel you get with other small scales like 009 and N. Thanks for watching 😃

@bambostarla6259 Ай бұрын
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I also would have gone for tt or N if I had to start over. But I had a small Ho and OO collection from my teen years and I didnt want to spend a lot of money for a new scale necesseraly. I live in Italy, and continental europe models are very expensive.

That is a very good model of the class 50, I thought the 00 gauge was a very decent model but it's just as impressive in tt scale 😀
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Ай бұрын
Yeah it'll definitely be interesting to compare it to the 00 gauge Accurascale model due out later this year - obviously that will have a lot more details and features but I still think Hornby have pulled out a winner with this in a smaller scale. Thanks for watching 😃

The TT120's are great looking engines and car. Someday hope to get some. I do N scale but TT120 is good for getting bigger but still does not take up to much space. Horby is hit that right spot for me. GOD BLESS from America 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖

The sound is great. I have fitted the same sound card into my Dapol n scale ! It fits, with the sugar cube speaker supplied by Hornby too, but I have yet to squeeze in some kind of stay-alive.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Ай бұрын
Yeah, definitely sounds much better in person too. I personally haven't felt the need for any stay alive yet since both bogies pickup and have some distance between them... that said I don't know how different it would be in N gauge. Thanks for watching 😃

Nice review once again. Indeed, it is a very well done model. The wealth of separate detail parts is very nice, as are the sounds and, of course, running qualities along with the 08. I imagine they'll sell dozens of these.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Ай бұрын
Yeah I could see these being popular too. The HST's have apparently sold very well and these seem to be up to the same high standard. Class 50s may not be as popular as the HSTs but combined with the 08 as well there's a decent diesel themed layout just waiting to be built there. Thanks for watching 😃

Yeah it is a pretty good deal! In 00 we have the Accurascale Class 50 due out later this year - obviously that one is larger, will probably have more detail and extras like the working fan too but it's about £100 more expensive so TT does seem to have found a nice place to sit when it comes to prices. Those front handrails are too high and take all the attention from the locos "face"... but it didn't stop me getting on for my layout! By the way have you enabled youtube closed captions for the "operating" shots ? 👏👏👏
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy 29 күн бұрын
There always has to be compromises. I suspect they could have made them out of thinner wire but then they would have been more delicate and more likely to break - then people would complain about that. KZbin automatically puts captions on everything. It's mainly designed to recognise speech though so that's why it gets a little confused when listening to a diesel engine. Thanks for watching 😃

Really inpressed by the quality of these models and a great review. Question from a new train modeller who wants to start with TT120. Is the best way to go to pick up a starter set and then build overtime from there?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy 27 күн бұрын
I would say so. The starter sets give you everything you need as a beginner and are considerably cheaper than buying by everything individually. You may outgrow things like the controller or want to expand with more track/locos after a while but initially the sets are pretty good in my opinion. If you like diesels there’s an HST set due for release later this year. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
@michaelrichardson5443

Thanks for the advice. I think I might go for the Easterner Set to make a start and then expand from there. Really enjoying the channel 👍
