If Lorgar had only not been so (for lack of a better word) lustful for a faith to follow and saw that this whole Worshipping Chaos was a very, very, VERY FUCKED UP IDEA...than he could have gone down in the Imperium's history as the one who warned the Imperium about this threat and have a blunt way of sticking it to his Dad/The Emperor that the human race is gonna NEED faith for this fight! Also it sucks absolute balls that Argel Tal was to late to save Cyrene from being killed by Aquillon! If he had been able to drive the Custodes off as he arrived in time he could have had just enough morality left in him to try and send Cyrene away from the legion to live a life away from all this chaos that was just going to increase in time. (No pun intended for the "chaos" line.) It would have been a far better alternate ending if Cyrene had asked, or possibly even begged Argel Tal to come away with her and live together away from everything else. I know it sounds like fanfiction but it would still be a good ending. A small light in a grimdark universe.
