Hmong in China are our original tribe. They kept most of our original culture and traditions. Time to go to China.

Not completely true. The Hmong were affected during the Cultural Revolution as well, but it was already in trouble during the 1600's when the Manchurian's of the Qing Dynasty began banning practices and limiting rights for the minority groups. Those who migrated downwards towards the South maintained a lot of the original traditions, customs, and language, while those in the north began assimilating into Manchu and Han culture, as there's were banned. This goes for the majority of Han-Chinese people as well, those who fled the North due to invasions from Mongol tribes and Jurchen clans.

It's not "sad" that we can't understand everything they say. To the Hmong in China, they say everyone is still family regardless of where they come from. Our differences shouldn't separate us, they bring us together.

Living in the United States, I can understand the guy's dialect perfectly, but I can't pick up the dialect from these Chinese Hmong at all. Such a beautiful world we live in, thanks for the video.

Yes it is, but I find it kind of beautiful in a way, that we have created so many dialects and varieties. Most have to speak Mandarin in order to understand each other. :0(

I would've appreciated it if you interviewed some elders. It's clear that even though the girls do speak Mong they're not comfortable with it. And we would've gotten a better example of their dialects and how it's similar and different then ours. It kinda seems like showcasing maidens instead of our culture which most young girls don't know. It's just disappointing.

@Jacky Phantom yes, each color represents the type of clothing for which each sub group of hmong distinguishes themselves. Why we do, I have no idea, but we are all hmong in essence and culture

Because Hmong white is NOT the original dialect. Hmong Green is because it is the closest to hmong Chinese dialect.

​@@level__level There are plenty of White Hmong in China too, there is no signal Chinese Hmong dialect, they have many dialects, actually many many, maybe hundreds of dialects more than us. The standard is actually something somewhat in-between our White and Green Hmong dialects, so it's incorrect to say White Hmong isn't the "original" dialect, because Green Hmong isn't either. For example Laotian Green Hmong call themselves Moob, but in Standard Miao, the standard Hmong dialect used in China for TV and news pronounces it Hmoob, like in White Hmong, but Standard Miao also pronounces the color white as Dlawb, so Standard Miao is neither White or Green, which makes sense because our dialects evolved and separated from them

They probably don't understand him because Hmong Americans from Laos have such a new mixed language. There's a lot of Laotian and thai words that are embedded in the Hmong language from that area of the world. Every time Hmong people migrate, their language keep changing.

Obviously wherever you live you will speak that dialect. Hmong Laos and Thai speak the Lao/Thai dialect which we can still understand. Hmong Vietnamese will speak the Vietnamese Disney. It’s just where you live.
