Hmong Story 40: Documentary on Galen Beery

Me. Galen Beery, today is June 8, 2023. I watched your documentary about the Hmong people during the Cold War. I am very grateful thank you to support my people their lost, death, and suffering for our sadness. Mr. Galen Beery, since I was a little kid roughly between 1977-1978, one day between these two fiscal years a helicopter dropped off my father in front of my father’s house with few items such as carbine ammunition, M-16 ammunition, walking-talking with a long antenna, couple explosion devices, and one tape recorder. My father shared many of these items to the Village and then informed them to move into the jungle before the communist will attack the Village. Therefore, my father took us to Phu Bia and then we remained in Phu Bia until mid of 1979 we got attacked by the Rebels or the Communists at Phu Bia. Then my father fought against the Rebels to protect my father’s family to escape from Phu Bia to Thailand. Therefore, we on foot to Thailand took us more than two months to the Mekong River. My father took twenty four hours to cross the Mekong River with couple bundles of Bamboo Pikes under both arms. We were very lucky and made to Thailand. Once we settled in a Camp in Nom Khai, the CIA came to Nom Khai to interview my father immediately to come to America. Therefore, two more later the Thai”s governments transferred us to Ban Vinai and then on January 14, 1980 we arrived in America. We settled in Virginia, Alexandria. My father’s immediately first job was to wash dishes on hourly $3.25. My father was the last Hero who had survived during the Cold War. Again, my father has mentioned your name and your title to help our people at that particular time. Therefore, I the older son of my Father’s family I am very thankful to your concerns regarding to our people during the Cold War. May God be with you at all times including your family. Sad story I grew up in southern Wisconsin and knew a number of Hmong people in high school In my experience they were very kind people, tough, and hardworking They sacrificed so much to help our soldiers in Vietnam and as a thank you for all they did for us they were all too often rewarded with racism and indignities here in the US God bless the Hmong people!

I had several uncles who fought in the war. All survived and came to America except one whose body was never recovered. This story reminds of the sacrifices our people made so long ago so we could enjoy the freedom we have today. Thank you!

If you can I want to say thank you to you for having that audacity to share about how you came to know the Hmong people during your years of service in Laos. I know it is hard for you to hold back those story all these to tell the world about the Hmong people. One day, I went to shopping at Home Depot. There is a white work there. He asked me, "Are you Hmong?" I answered, Yes, I am sir. He was in tear and said to me. I am a soldier fought during the Vietnam War. I want to let you know that, we the American people owe your people a lot. We cannot ever repay the Hmong people. He lead me to his locker and show me his purple heart medal. He said, "Without the Hmong soldier I will not be here today." I had a good conversation with him before I left the store. When I watch you documentary it brought to tears. We the Hmong gave thousand of ours 10-12 years to fight for the America during the Vietnam War. Why those children have to died for America? Because we are dedicated ours life for America. I hope your documentary will open a true story to many people to see how loyalty the Hmong are. Thank you.

Hmong Community leaders were always worked hard together to fight our freedom in Laos many years ago. I'm 0nly 3 years old. My dad was a lieutenant sadly passed from the war. I have to walk all the way to Thailand for safety. There's more tears and deaths than words that's all I have to say. RIP to all trying to flee communism and didn't make it and so the ones trying to cross Mekong too. I'm still traumatize by the war till today. 😭

Thank you for your support, I am Hmong, former refugees, but of French nationality. During the war in Laos, I was a small child, but I remembered what my parents accompanied us to escape the bomb of B52 and Lao Issara (pathe lao) we could compare between the mice and the cat rescues as well as the eagle, the night the mouse fears the wild cat (B52 bombardment that night) the day the mouse fears the eagle (the communist and Vietnamese Lao military)

Where u go to boot camp brother. As a fellow Hmong brother and a marine infantry I saw three of my teammates KIA. My MOS was 0352 serve 09 all till 15 when I got blown out of a humve with my teammates and lost a leg and three finger.

Some Hmong in Laos are doing well due to Hmong USA sending them money. They are in top government positions. Own businesses. Well educated children, doctors, pharmacists.. Own cars, trucks, buses. Relocate to the cities, own land.
