@@jeromelim1034 liberal, progressive, conservative, modernist, traditionalist… above all these labels, we are first and foremost Christians/Catholics. Ang katoliko hindi lang nakakulong sa terminolohiyang politikal. Yung isinisimba mo sa simbahan, isinasabuhay din yan.

I don't think so, here in the Philippines he was one of the strict and among conservative cleric. Maybe his way of teachings, catechesis, and homilies are not familiar with westerners. In fact, he was well known by his students (seminarian) as a strict prof. I also suggest to read his written works about Church and current issues in the Philippines and abroad as church official in Vatican.
