John, your work is amazing. The rigging and the sails are so difficult and I am finding it very hard to do them. There is just no space to work. I will keep going and you are giving me some hope that it can be done.
@JohnsWoodenShips3 жыл бұрын
It is very hard, indeed the lack of space especially between the main and front mast is tragic. It is hard but doable :)
@dennistrue6473 Жыл бұрын
What if only one mast is mounted. Is it feasable to rig and do sails on say the main mast then install the forward mast? Finish rigging,, Ratlines etc. What about tying sails to yards before attaching to forward mast after installing. Just unroll after yards are set@@JohnsWoodenShips I could probably figure that out. But I'm still on final steps on the Albatros. Beagle is on the shelf calling my name

@@dennistrue6473 you can do it with any way you like. Every way has it's advantages and disadvantages, try to find the one that suits you.

John I realize what you say is true. I have rigged the sails on one small plastic ship. You have done 21 wood ships. When I ask is it feasable I'm asking you to draw on your experience and to reach a conclusion. Is it a good idea to try to change assembly by doing one mast with sails. Then move on. I have read where someone asks something. Your reply might be "that would be disasterous. And Here's why... @@JohnsWoodenShips

@@dennistrue6473 Dennis, i have many years of experience, so in my videos i am showing a way that i believe is the easiest. If i find out another way that i think is better i will change that. And as i always say there are more than one way to do everything, you just have to find the one that suits your needs. Now the way i think is better is the one that i am showing.

John, the model looks great. A question: does the installment of all the ropes and sails follows the instruction sheet or your experience? Might there be a better sequence that you woud recommend? E.g. placing the rat lines and the deadeyes after the sails? Would it also be better to place the blocks to thre sails before put them on the yards?
@JohnsWoodenShips3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ralf, thank you! If you place the ratlines after the ropes then you will be in big trouble, Everything will be in your way and you won't be able to work. Also some models have block on the ratlines. You can place the blocks on the sails at anytime, it won't make a difference. You have plenty of space to work there. In my experience is better to place the sails on the front and main mast and then the vertical ones between the masts. Other wise you won't be able to see a lot of things that you need to pass the ropes for the sails on the masts. The rear mast and the sails on the bow are the easiest ones. The big problem is always the amount of space you have to work with and the difficulty not to interfere with other ropes.

Use a wash of white glue and water spray the sails lightly and use a blow drier to fill the sails with wind if ya wish
@JohnsWoodenShips4 ай бұрын
That will make the sails stiff, i don't like that. It's like plastic.
@billa29673 жыл бұрын
A couple of years ago, I watched a video from another modeler who diluted white glue with water and painted that on his sails, to shape them like the wind would. Have you ever tried that?
@JohnsWoodenShips3 жыл бұрын
Yes i know this technique but it makes the sails hard like plastic and i want my sails to feel like fabric, do not mind if they are not seem full of wind :)

John I just wanted to tell you. It's all your fault that I got into wood ship modelis!! So when I think of at ship with sails lifted, I can picture the ship at sail. DO you have any leads showing an easy way to make the sails look like they are full of the wind??
@JohnsWoodenShips Жыл бұрын
Glad that you like this hobby! No i haven't made the sails like that. You can get them wet with a solution of white glue and water and leave them to dry on the surface of a can, but the cloth will stop being a cloth.

look on occre chanel: palos -101...you forgot the two small stripes on the mars-plateau.... on the top side.....i build the occre two and i forget it too :) but very good build ! LIKE!
@JohnsWoodenShips3 жыл бұрын
The drawing are a bit confusing on the platforms. The stripes should be under and the drawings have none under. No problem with that, it looks just fine without the top, but the under are mandatory for the platforms to be mounted. Thanks!

at the end of OcCre's part list. There are b/w pictures of the composits pieces in the plastic box. The pics are badly whitewashed. I cannot see the difference between the blocks meant to have one rope pass through from the block that passes two. Dou you have any pictures with Part letters that clearly show which block is which.
@JohnsWoodenShips Жыл бұрын
No but it's easy to understand, the blocks have a different part number.
