As a 12 year old sea cadet I sailed on her final voyage in 1970 overnight to Liverpool, very exciting.

I was lucky enough to visit this ship when she was berthed at Hebburn on Tyne. That would be 1987 or 88. I was in the Police marine division and it was a security check. I spent 11 years in the merchant navy as an engineer and had never visited any naval vessel. I was surprised at the lack of space. The accommodation was small but the engine room/boiler spaces were so tight. After the visit I must admit to admiring the crew who ran the ship. To enter into a naval battle battened down was not for the faint hearted. I honestly don’t think I would have had the bottle to do it.

Totally agree,I visited Cavalier when she was in Brighton,I don't think it's possible to appreciate how tight the spaces are without seeing them first hand,I'm just glad that she's been preserved properly to remind us of the service and sacrifices made.

She has a wonderful atmosphere. My profile picture is of me in front of her on the 2019 'Salute to the 40's' weekend. Never get tired of visiting her.

She was dumped at Hartlepool when no one wanted her, but the people of Hartlepool would not let the Warrior die, they raised the money and used their shipbuilding skills to bring her back from the brink, and when she was completed she was whisked away for the people down south to enjoy her! Talk about piracy!!!

I wish more RN ships from WW2 had been preserved .

I know Jerry. Such a shame only a handful of ships and boats were kept from that era

Yeah, I was fast asleep mate! I was reading that it’ll cost tens of millions of $ to complete - a crazy amount of money if true, but what price can you put on a piece of history I guess.
@jerrymccrae72026 жыл бұрын
@@jamesb8418 true i think she's 113? She keeps leaking so their spending the $ each dry docking 2 fix it. Cold here 2nite. I was wondering if youd 👍 to be a FB friend?
