Although HMS Medusa had been in continual service since being in action at Omaha Beach on D-Day, it was a 5 year project to restore her to original condition. The final pieces of the restoration were made possible through funding provided by the Haven Academy for the installation of vital safety equipment -- from life-jackets and a life-raft to a radar scanner. Alan Watson of the Medusa Trust, a charity set up to restore and maintain Medusa, talks about the difficulties and how they managed to successfully complete the project despite the daunting financial challenges. The key was some very creative thinking and planning to make use of a redundant boat yard, re-employing former workers and then using the project as a programme to train a team of youngsters as shipwrights. This clip shows the scale of the restoration from stripping the vessel down to bare timbers and then a complete rebuild.
