Why do you need to Blacken the Brass parts and what do you use to do it with?
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov 4 ай бұрын
Yellow metal is not used on real ships. Therefore, all metal must be black on the module as well, as you want to get a more historically accurate copy! I use Brass Black for the metal finish!

@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov Жыл бұрын

@bloodyrambo953

@olhabatchvarov, for layering all those etched copper pieces, have you considered solder paste as opposed to wire? It’s normally used in small electronics with the solder in a suspension that allows one to precisely place any size drop of solder (like for tiny bits & chips), and heat it till it melts and flows. Less filing would be needed. If you look up SMD soldering you can see how it’s done.
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov Жыл бұрын
Yes, I use silver paste, with a low melting point. But not this time, because there are very thin layers of brass here, which are easy to burn with a butane torch...

Hi Olha I know we are a long way from being there, but how do you determine the thickness of rope that you use for each model? does it come with the kit, but what if it doesn't is there a way to calculate rope size for scale models?
@OlhaBatchvarov
@OlhaBatchvarov Жыл бұрын
It all depends on the type of the ship. In the kit you will find 3-5 diameters and that's it. Not recently (3 weeks ago) I published a video on how to calculate diameters in the Community tab (on the main page of the channel). I can't insert the link here, because KZbin blocks the comment...

Just be careful with large grain and contrasting fibers. In scale, the model will look like a striped tiger! It is for the same reason that I never use oak on models (as it was on a real ships), but only imitate it with walnut. In scale - this is just perfect wood. Because oak has such large grains - like the Mariana Trench on a scale)))

What make certain ships more complicated than others (beginners v advanced) is it the hull shape, is it more detail or a mixture of both

Excellent and educational video as always! Liked the idea of using tape to place the letters for the ship name! It would do your model a great service, however, if you spent just a bit time with a diamond file and removed the photoetch tabs left over after cutting the letters from the fret. They were the first thing I noticed starting the video, and could not be unseen. Tamiya's diamond file (item 74066) is highly recommended for cleaning up photoetched parts! 🙂

This is exactly what I am doing at the moment: 5:45 ))) Although it is not possible to apply it to letters - they are so fragile that they bend from breath (their size is 2x3 mm on average)...
@astralscooter
@astralscooter Жыл бұрын
@@OlhaBatchvarov Hmmm... I thought they were bigger, but I've cleaned up PE that small before. If you feel that your vise isn't giving you proper control, perhaps a small PE bending tool (search for "the bug photoetch" to see one example), or a pair of tweezers can be used to get a grip on things? Now, another option is to get Tamiya's curved scissors for PE. With these you can cut very close to the part, and won't need to clean it up (as much).
