I'm ex Royal Navy 85/92 and was Portsmouth based on HMS INTREPID. coming back from leave or piss up in pompey, we had to walk by about 15 destroyers/ frigates to get to where INTREPID was berthed. Now we have 6 type 45 destroyers that they can't seem to fix, apart from civilian engineering coming on board to fix it ( maybe something to do with getting rid of the tiffs) and promoting strikers to petty officers within 3 years of joining. They don't have the EXPERIENCE. Also we have 11 frigates, well only 9 now as 2 are fucked. Blueberries to roses unprotected and we are using the RFA for destroyers work. I'm sure the Chinese and Russian navies will be scared of a supply ship with machine guns strapped to the upper deck. I still love the Royal Navy but boy oh boy, do our politicians and especially our senior naval officers need a servere kick in the balls for letting our navy and armed forces get to such a state. And before they say they are spending record sums of cash on defence, they started taking all the pensions and disability pensions from the MOD budget, which used to come from the DWP. The actual MOD couldn't run ANYTHING. They waste everything they touch. The whole of Whitehall should be privatised.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and experiences. It's disheartening to hear about the challenges the Royal Navy is facing. With some critical issues is an understatement, look at the two aircraft carriers always broken down. I remember going to the Navy days at Pompey, early 80s going on all the frigates and destroyers best day out loved the Navy. Thank you for your service. Did you travel worldwide Glad you enjoyed your time with them.
