In the dark you see just how much heat that deck has to withstand from them jet engines
@unitedwestand51003 жыл бұрын
That's funny. The Lift thrust is not heated. It's not generated by the Jet Engine exhaust. During construction of an F-35B, a visible “LiftFan” is engineered into a forward part of the center fuselage just behind the pilot to enable massive downward vertical thrust. Horsepower is sent to the LiftFan from the main engine through a “spiral belevel gear system,” Rolls Royce information states. This horsepower, when combined with the LiftFan, generates the downward thrust necessary to enable the “hover” ability and vertical landing. An F-35B has what looks like an square door or opening on top of the fuselage behind the pilot and above the lift fan to maximize downward air flow. Engineers explain that the massive thrust, sufficient to propel the aircraft up to speeds beyond the sound barrier, results from a four fold process. Air ducts on either side of the nose “suck” in air to the engine, the air is then compressed before being ignited with gas -- generating what looks like a controlled explosion of fire coming out of the back. The force generated through this process, enables the speed, maneuverability and acceleration of the aircraft. Mechanical information provided by F-35B engine maker Rolls Royce states “To achieve STOVL, the lift fan component of the LiftSystem operates perpendicular to the flow of air over the aircraft." The LiftFan can operate in crosswinds up to 288mph, Rolls Royce data explains. The lift fans placement in the fuselage is why the B variant's fuel capacity is 33% less than the A, and B variants, and why its weapons payload is smaller. Normally the area where the lift fan is located is occupied by a fuel tank, and weapons bay.

@@unitedwestand5100 that fan barely produces thrust and more the balance the front and back of the jet The jet gimbals so its obviously putting out extreme amounts of thrust to lift a huge plane off the ground
@unitedwestand51003 жыл бұрын
@@iracingrookie3301 ,. All jets rear exhaust articulates, anymore. Yes it helps create lift, but not nearly enough to lift an F-35B vertically by itself. Normally, on the Harrier, the rear exhaust was redirected to other areas to achieve STOVAL, but the F-35B is a Stealth fighter, and redirecting the exhaust/heat to the wings, and fuselage defeats the Stealth capabilities. Therefore, it uses a seperate large fan to achieve vertical lift. The thrust is plenty, because the B variant is the smallest of all F-35 variants. It also has a narrower wing span, and lighter airframe. Thus it is incapable of withstanding, or generating, the same G forces of the other two variants. The US Navy's F-35C is the largest, and most robust of the 3 variants, because it is designed specifically for carrier operations. Where the A, and B have a single nose wheel, the C has a dual nose wheel configuration, a stronger airframe, a bigger weapons bay, a fuel tank in both wings, and where the lift fan is in the B variant. It also has the widest wing span of the 3 versions. It is far superior to both the A and B variants. The B variant is by far the inferior of the 3 variants.

The problem is when you have bossed more than half the planet and that power is gone you tend to think your still the boss with your attitude and manners that was 50/70 years ago when we was the Guvna. Your empire finished 30yrs ago so your attitude is we’re still the boss but your not anymore. China & America are but it won’t be long before China is head boy. You see every dog has its day. If you look carefully you can also see small bumps placed here and there on the fuselage. These are not external sensor pods. Keep in mind the F-17 was designed in the 1970s! It was old tech in the 1990s! 2nd. The Israeli airforce has been using the F-35 in combat, air to air, and bombing missions over Syria and Iran for SIX years now. And the Russians in Syria using the S400 and Iran using the S300 have both claimed that they CANNOT detect the F-35.

Espero que ya hayan mejorado muchísimo su pericia de guerra antiaérea. Lo que pasó contra Argentina fue una lección muy dura. Dado el potencial "en libros," nada justifica haber perdido tantos navíos.

Actually it kinda does given anti-air and anti-missile defences on warships weren't nearly as potent in 1982 as they are now? Back then we didn't have Sea-Ceptor or Sea-Viper missiles or Phalanx C-WIS turrets. Back then we still won that war anyway though, and yeah we lost a few ships but we sent over a hundred, we could afford to; and yeah to surface targets Argentina's air-force was by far the biggest threat, but every time they actually came up against some of OUR aircraft, Sea-Harriers, they got their arses kicked, and the F35's a lot more potent than any Sea-Harrier ever was

Yeah. Because if you have to say, “We are not going to be bullied!” to a bully on your doorstep, it’s too late. The fight will happen in your garden. Your family & neighbours will suffer. By sailing to the land of the bully, sailing a few miles from his shoreline, and you say, “I’m sailing in international waters, freely, willingly & protected by international law.” You hold the right & Right is on your side. While the bullies are processing what you say, you add, “We are not here to be bullied.” If the bully attacks, he is in the wrong. It’s that simple.

¡Saludos!

The current french one spends most of its time under maintenance, with not enough ships to closely guard it. By the time it’s finished (French one) it will be about 2031. Ten years will be enough time for us to greatly improve our military strength. Plus as many threats that France makes, they’re an ally, and at the end of the day we wont attack them. Ever, despite their arrogance.

Whats the catch with the f35 stol variant i mean vertical landings must be heavy on fuel no?Centre air intake behind cockpit taking up valuable room maybe ?It all loooks lovely hovering around but there has to be a combat compromise no? Just always knew about issues with the harrier jumpjet and wondered how f35 overcame them ,example how much wind would exceed safe vertical landing._lovely aircraft but for me it would have to be the f22 raptor ya thats some jet i think,anyway sorry was rambling a bit night

The concern I have is the national cross weapons compatibility. In a pinch will the USMC aircraft be able to use British ordnance and vice versa?
@Akm723 жыл бұрын
I believe the aircraft are already capable of that, however it's not clear if the US and UK crews are cross-trained on each others' weapons.
@LRRPFco523 жыл бұрын
There's even more commonality than that. USAF F-35As have deployed through Europe, stopping in UK, and enjoy services from UK F-35B basing. USAF pilots are doing exchange with USMC F-35B squadrons working off LHDs. Cockpit is the same between all 3, with the B being the only 1 without a tailhook.

@@jungletroll3844 Harrier started out with small wings. US made the big wing AV-8B, which was also adopted as the GR.7 in the UK with constant joint testing, validation, and exchanges between RN, RAF, and USMC. F-35B/JSF-B has been a joint effort between UK and USMC/JSF JPO before JSF even. UK validated the STOVL Digital Flight Control System on the VAAC Harrier testbed to eliminate the wonkiness of the Harrier's manual nozzle lever control system for VTOL. That was the baseline RDT&E for X-35B STOVL flight controls, and UK test pilots were on exchange in the US at the time to fly the X-35B as developmental partners.
