Bravo Zulu, sir. What fun it was to watch your show. Fabulous artistry on all fronts. Your idea to house the Aubrey Maturin series beneath is sheer genius. Thank you for sharing!

Great job on the ship, just as I had pictured her. You need a few scale people to go with the music stuff, and to work the ship. That Nocturne that you selected is one of the finest pieces of music I've heard this year.

Thanks. I did add some crew after the film was finished. 1/48 scale crew are hard to find.

Excellent Sir, I started the Montane’s last October. Building ships is an art form in its self, you become part of the ship itself believe me there’s nothing like it. I’m about 85% on hull and fixtures. The mast and rigging is another build all in itself. Did you build the case your self, I’m going to do the same. Very nice work indeed!
@GlennMale3 жыл бұрын
I did design and build the case. A case is most important for a tall ship.

Yes it does They do not look real enough. I am looking for better ones.

@@GlennMale Being a Modeller for more than 60 years, I always use the '80/20 Rule." The 80% of the build is the easiest! The last 20%, the 'fine details' take to be be 'right.' You've done an OUTSTANDING job on HMS Surprise, and it is fully understandable that that last 20%... also needs to match such OUTSTANDING work!! =)

Amazing! How much rigging thread was used in total?
@GlennMale3 жыл бұрын
I don't really know but when I ran out of one type I used 10 meters of replacement thread just to do one mast and the bow lines.
@GlennMale3 жыл бұрын
I have just roughly calculated about 350 - 400 meters of rigging thread.

The book on mead making, sometimes alcohol is your best tool. Kidding aside, I found the internet was the best source.

would you say this is a superior kit to ZHL surprise ?

How much would it cost to buy a completed model of this standard?
@GlennMale3 жыл бұрын
Hard to say. 680 hours plus $1,000 for the kit alone. The cost of paints and extra detail fixtures. I had to purchase extra rigging. Then if you include the case. I found one ship as an example for sale. It is more detailed than mine at 10,000 euro's; www.marisstella.hr/ship-model-for-sale-details,22,s-felipe
@pf8243 жыл бұрын
Thanks Glenn. Unfortunately I lack the skills or the patience to build one myself. Sadly, it would appear that acquiring a model of this quality could be a very expensive option. I’ll keep my eye out as they do sometimes appear in antiques shops or house clearances here in the UK. Great model by way.
@GlennMale3 жыл бұрын
@@pf824 Try eBay, you may find some made off shore that are less cost. Not as detailed but some adequate nice. I saw a youtube video of a factory isomewhere that churns them out.
