John, I am currently building my second model, I started with the Albatross and build the decks in the standard way. Long singular strips from the bow to stern, and used pencil to create the details. My current ship, The Endurance, I cut each individual deck board, used pencil to highlight all the edges, and added nail holes for detail. My next build, The Beagle, will get the full treatment that you are currently using. I watched another KZbinr use the thread method and that was beautiful as well! Looking forward to next week's build. Thank you!

John,I want to thank you for your videos. They were very helpful with the HMS Beagle I just finished. I have started on Victory ( with lights) and have a couple of points. I discovered it mattered where I cut the LED strip for the officers quarters (2 LED) I guess I was using a different brand but to get them to work I had to cut the 3 only a certain way. Secondly, I found single LEDs with resistors built in so there is no need to go through the wiring hassle of adding them. I can get you more information about them if you like.
@JohnsWoodenShips Жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas! I am glad that you like them and you use them!!! Normally the LED strips are divided by 3, that's how the LED strips i have used for Victory, and when i cut them at 2 i showed how to make them turn on with the use of a small resistor. Yes i know about the LEDs with the build in resistor, i prefer to have one for a bunch of them than having one for every LED, but thank you very much for the offer! :)
@thomaslee2391 Жыл бұрын
Just to be clear the LED strip I use does come with 3 LEDs. However when I cut it to 2 and wire them as you did they would not light unless I cut them in a certain way. But I worked it out so no problem. Thanks again for the help

Looking good. You can add a thin layer of varnish over the deck making sure to soak the string. This way it should harden and behave during sanding.
@JohnsWoodenShips Жыл бұрын
I used one coat of wood sealer, that made the thread solid and it was like sanding wood. Then one layer of varnish and the result is simple outstanding!!!
@221b-l3t Жыл бұрын
@@JohnsWoodenShips Good to hear because I think my next model I will do the same. With varnish I think it really looks like tar. Much better than pencil.
@JohnsWoodenShips Жыл бұрын
@@221b-l3t Oh yes, it is much better than pencil, you will see the next 2 decks and they are looking great even from really close. The good thing here is that you can change the color of the lines and make them dark brown just by changing the thread! 🙂

what a wonderful dog. cheerful, playful. yes I have a question for you. What brand of LED strip and power supply comes from it? which you bet on the Titanic. Thank you
@JohnsWoodenShips Жыл бұрын
Hi Evgeny! I love them both! I didn't got a specific brand, i just searched for yellow led strips that works with 12V and have 3 LEDs per session, not more because the light would have been more intense. The power supply that you can use is of course 12V DC and at least 1A, or you can wait to see the construction of the stand base where i will make a PSU unit that will work with input of 12 V AC.

great work John, there is a vid on youtube of a very good shipbuilder name Davaoshipmodeller , like yourself. He shows three ways to do the planking, one using threads like you are doing here .but he as I remember used wood glue instead of ca glue, which really helps when it comes to sanding as the synthetic thread sokes up the wood glue a lot easier than ca glue . I really hope that may help you sir in your endeavors. he also uses synthetic thread rather than cotton

I would try to use beeswax to stiffen the threads. Just drag the thread thrue the wax. Dont know if it works. But it would save the CA glue

The wan won't make the tread that stiff and the CA glue has a cost of 1,5 euros per 20ml, pretty cheap.
