I was deployed with the Tarawa many times. May she rest easy.

Is there also a video of the USS Tarawa sinking by the missile?
@kdrapertruckerАй бұрын
Not by that missile, Tarawa was also hit by several stealth LRASM anti ship missiles.

I was sunk by a maritime version of a JDAM dropped from a B-2.

No ships were destroyed in the making of this video.

Wow, a warship from the Netherlands operating in waters around Hawaii. I might be a bit slow, and know RIMPAC is open to all USA Allies. But I am wondering about the logistics of sending a frigate more than half way around the world, transversing the Indian Ocean to the North-East/Central Pacific. Who paid for their fuel? Are they doing a circumventing world cruise and returning to the Netherlands by way of the Panama Canal? Do they have their own supply ships, or are they using allies? Or Is it because the Netherlands still have a National Interest in Shell Oil? Which still operates in their former colonies.... I guess I answered my own question in my rambling text. I.E. I assume that the Netherlands still has a Major Economic reason to have a Military presence in the "Pacific" region.

That didn't sink the USS Tarawa... nope. It would make a hole, but wouldn't sink the USS Tarawa. I bet More ships were involved...rimpac.

B2 Stealth Bomber supposedly did her in with a new torpedo that was designed specifically for carriers. Namely as a signal to China and Russia to beware because China has been floating its own gator freighter around Taiwan. And … they wanted to see if this type of weapon could be deployed via Stealth Bomber.

Wtf? Rather than sink it, why wasn't it donated to the Philippines to replace the Sierra Madre...? One problem these days is there's very little common sense left in the world... Common sense, common decency, common courtesy... None of these are "common" anymore... SMH 😠

They were testing out a new torpedo specifically for sinking amphibious assault ships and carriers. And it was deployed by B2 Stealth Bomber. A new mod perk for the B2. It was signal to China and Russia who floating their own gator freighters around Cuba and Taiwan. I was on her four years. I’m thankful she wasn’t stripped for scrap in some graveyard or sold to some entity that wouldn’t be able to maintain her. I may have picked up a couple of degrees from University of Houston later in life but that was ship was my true university coming out of high school.

Ships do not last forever and the Phillipines should be investing in missiles instead of targets. That old ship would just deprive other programs of modern resources. Invest in land-based missiles instead. One bomb can sink a ship, but islands are immune and the Phillipines have plenty of places to dig in below the depth any Chinese weapon can reach. Dig in like Taiwan and spend on SHORAD, tube arty and missiles.

@jonathanozment4523. Hey I just looked up the Sierra Madre (LST) you mentioned. Boy, that is an amazing piece of history there.

Old warships like these are good for the environment, they make great coral reefs. Usually they decide the best place to sink a ship.
