In fact, although Ho Chi Minh quoted the US declaration of independence in the Vietnamese declaration of independence, he modified it. “All men are created…” he translated into “Tất cả mọi người…” in Vietnamese, meaning “All people are created”, including both men and women. In 1776, Americans had not yet fulfilled their Declaration of Independence when only white men were equal and free. By 1861, black men were equal to white men and at this time, America did exactly what they declared "all men are created equal". And it wasn't until the mid-20th century that American women had the right to vote, and they had equal rights with men. At this time, the United States truly implemented what Ho Chi Minh said "All people are created equal" in terms of law.

I love him but to be fair, it’s also important you take the two languages into consideration. In English, not until very recently, usually when they refer to people in general, the male person is always used to refer to. For example, mankind, human, etc., or “a man is wise when he…”. It’s been a practice for long. Now let’s say if Ho Chi Minh wanted to literally translate (word-by-word translation) the phrase “all men are created equal”, which are understood generally in English as all people for ages, he would have to write in Vietnamese literally as: “mọi người đàn ông..”. This, after all, is very silly since in the context of the Vietnamese language usage, it only refers to men, male people, whereas in the English context, it generally is understood as people in general.

His French and Russian seemed good. But his English here is inconclusive because he's reading it the first time, and probably the second time as well. He could definitely speak English, but I'm not sure he's FLUENT.

As I know, his English was hardly affected by his French which is his most fluently foreign language. There're a video of Ho Chi Minh speaking in English smoothly and fluently enough but every word he pronounce its sound just like French or French people talking English.

@@khylelewis I'm just giving you more information. As for whether his English is good or not, I think it doesn't matter. He did not have a good education but had to work hard in England and the United States to find a way to liberate his people. He wrote many articles, met many people, from workers to politicians using the English he learned in those special conditions with the sole purpose of liberating the people, and he did it. Therefore, assessing whether his English level is good or bad is no longer necessary because he has already used English effectively and achieved his goals.

He can speak 29 foreigner languages but only fluent in about 5 to 9 foreign languages. However, this number does not include the languages of Vietnam's ethnic minorities such as Tày, Yao, Hmong, that Ho Chi Minh used a lot during the 15 years he lived in the Viet Bac war zone.

Like other normal people, Ho Chi Minh had love in his youth. But he decided to sacrifice his personal feelings for the sake of independence and freedom for the nation. In Vietnam's situation at that time, revolutionaries like Ho Chi Minh were not rare, but no one sacrificed as much and as thoroughly as he did. Before dying, our great President said "I dedicate my life to my people".

Unfortunately I have to look for the video that I watched long time ago. That video elaborated his political life, he most of time traveled back and forth between China and Vietnam. During his visit to Beijing where he met Mr. Mao, he spoke mandarin. At some period of time, he stayed in Hong Kong, obviously it is a place where Cantonese speaking is widely used, even now. Besides, he at some points met a Cantonese woman who is a nurse.

He know how to write chinese in Vietnam. Speaking chinese part is very easy to learn for vietnamese especially if he/she know how to write chinese. Vietnamese used a lot chinese vocabulary in formal writing and although most vocabulary words are pronounced different than in chinese, but they are the same in writing. Since china has many dialects during his time, they just write in chinese to communicate with other chinese. He knows at least one chinese dialect, and could have known cantonese dialect or/and mandarin, but he's not fluent like other chinese leaders during his time. MaoZeDong and DengXiaoPing didn't know how to speak standard mandarin, they can write chinese very well and speak local dialect, so they used intepreters for communication in standard mandarin with other chinese leaders or by writing. Ho Chi Minh married a chinese wife while he was in china, so he must know how to speak at least one of chinese dialects. There was a story about him correcting a mandarin interpreter when he didn't use the correct words in the conversation with chinese leader. He still used chinese interpreter, but he understand the chinese language and he may not speak mandarin fluently. That was why he was using interpreter.
