Piece by piece, KZbin helps me with my Layout!! This is just bloody brilliant! I love the hinge idea. It keeps good alignment of the track. The only thing I might do differently is put some cork, or even wood strips, under the rails at the cuts. Not that there's a huge chance of that rail sagging.... but I have grandkids. One will eventually lean on, or push on, those rails that are suspended at the joints. Man, that's some clever thinking!! Just subbed. Carmine 🚂

Good thing about painting the wood is it helps a little with warping by sealing the wood.

lift up section looks good and runs fine. the wheels on your locos and rolling stock won't notice much. if you haven't done so, slightly ile the inside of the rail to help "smooth" out the wheels passing over it

Nice work! You might want to add a section of facia to that area that sticks up above the foam by about half an inch. This would be to act as a guard rail to prevent any expensive toys from taking a fall. Just an Idea to keep things on the layout rather than on the floor. Thanks for sharing, I subscribed. Ethan

Thanks for the tip. The "bump" comes from trying to line up the tracks, not from them hitting each other, if that is what you were saying... If all my benchwork was perfectly flat and level, it would be much easier...

Could you isolate a section of track on each side of the lift and then use joiners to make contact on each end? The raising end would use side contacts and the lowering section would use bottom contacts. Then when raised, the isolated sections would lose power, keeping any trains from crashing off or into the lift. Hope that makes sense. Very good job and nice video.

Very clever design. I saw somebody made a suggestion elsewhere to cut the rails at an angle to avoid the bump you were referring to. Doing it with your beveling might make for a compound cut, not sure. Sounded like a good suggestion, but I don't have specific experience. Just passing it along.

Thanks Ethan. I had not thought of that. I will keep that in mind, may have to do some clear plexiglas or something like that...

Go to Home Depot. get the sealant called dap, it comes in different colors and is paintable, you can fill all the voids plywood leaves when it is cut. Your bench work will look fantastic. It comes in a caulking tube.

Thanks Penn. I did do a little fine tuning after the video was posted. From what I can tell on my test runs, it works pretty good. I hope to have some more track added this weekend to run a longer train over it.

Thanks Steve. I'm already thinking of changing it to add a crossover... Not sure just yet. I'll keep everyone updated as I find time to work on it.
