This shows how well your three point suspension works, not a single wobble. Really makes the whole train look real.

Those SD40-2's look great. My favorite Locomotives. Watched all the videos of the 5126. Awesome job. That squeeking from the Kato unit, everyone of mine has done that. I put a very small amount of very light oil on the axles and it solved that problem. Love the video. Great job.

I just re-watched all 25 episodes of the SD40-2 build and this video. Videos like these and really have motivated me to get back into the hobby. My father was a super detail modeler like Dan and watching the series really brings back memories of his work. Keep up the great work John I really enjoy the videos new and old.

Awesome! This was a monster project that took well over a year to film. Hundreds of hours were spent in editing. I don't think I have seen anything else quite like it on KZbin.

Very nice. As a kid, I used to walk the tracks right into the railyard in Oakland. You did an amazing job replicating it here. Very occasionally, you would see a Santa Fe train pass through on SP tracks. This began happening after they removed the Santa Fe Oakland local tracks which ran right through the cities and Berkeley in particular was most impacted and they voted to buy the Santa Fe right of way.

I just finished re-re-re-watching the wonderful 25-part build series (I've been inspired to try 'upgrading' my loco's) and of course HAD to re-re-re-watch this conclusion episode. What a treat :) Such a delight I had to re-comment ;) Just wanted to let you guys know you've inspired me to try new (scary) things, and I feel that these tutorials have given my the confidence to apply the techniques. Thank you.

Least I could do, as it's the truth! Specific to you, John, your taking the plunge and doing the DCC decoders did, in fact, have the 'if I can do it, you can too' effect on me. For a long time, I watched and thought, "well, a modeller like Dan can do those tiny and fiddly things, but I'd just make a mess and ruin the model" so I didn't even try. I look forward to more 'John's Models'. (And, no. My first efforts didn't turn out as good as Dan's. But so what?! It's fun learning.

Dan, very nice set of videos about building this loco...I noticed in them that you replaced all the wheels with aftermarket ones. forgot you the company is that you spoke of...I myself have 5 or so old blue box DD40s as they called them been working on them the past few years...3 DD35As an 2 DD35B units.. Been converting them all over to DCC an restoring them... they all run perfect Except the noise coming from those org wheel sets...these here have those old metal truck frames that the axle ends sit into . You think that company you got yours from would have anything that would work in mine..Thanks for your time Scotty

Hi Scotty, your best bet would be to check with them and/or conduct a search on Google for specific parts.

I'm very interested to converting some older diesels to DCC but have no experience doing it. Rather than hard-wiring the decoder why wouldn't hard-wire a DCC connector and then plug the decoder into it sort of making it DCC ready. Great job on the SD40-2, inspires me to want try doing the same.

Question gentlemen... HOW do you get Atls and KATO locomotives to run with Athearn is it the CV settings?
@tsgmultimedia6 жыл бұрын
With DCC you can speed match your locomotives so they run at the same speed regardless of the brand. I want to do a video about this in the near future but I will have to figure out a way to shoe-horn it into the schedule.
