the new DB hatch is an extended range DB hatch. on the prototype it did as the name implies by increasing the range of speed that the dynamics were effective in.

The idea behind that routine was to ask the questions that viewers might be thinking as we watched Dan work his magic on this model. It was a ton of work but the end result is pretty stunning 19 episodes later :))

The larger dynamic brake section is an extended range dynamic brake. It allows use of the dynamic brake down to speeds as low as 5 mph on the second gen EMD's. Newer AC units will all but bring a train to a stop in dynamic braking.

So i've got my MKT Athearn SD40-2 blue box unit and as Dan is doing the work i'm looking at mine and noticing the little imperfections, spots where things should be added or removed, etc. I'm not going to do any of this to that specific unit but i've got a fairly beat up one that I picked up for a steal on eBay that i'm going to try my hand at some of these things. Thanks for telling us the detail part #'s as well.

They can be found on sale for cheap at places like Harbor Freight, etc. Even as low as 5 bucks.

This series comes out on the first of every month up through October. At that point it will come out once a week until each project is finished. There may be a break in between projects, but that has not been determined yet.
