I built an "automatic" rail maintenance vehicle out of an old hacked dragster chassis. You can just let it run by itself every few days and makes rail care a nonissue. Hardest part of designing it and building it was keeping it light and low profile so it would pass under the bridge and not topple over. Since it's the only thing running, I could make it pretty wide. I use a few squirts of WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner in the little reservoir using a little felt pad wick feed system and just let it run for about 10 laps per lane. Works good but it gets hot in one run so you have to let it cool off between lanes. I lowered the gear ratio as far as I could using stock gears for extra torque and to try to ease the load on the motor but, since it runs slow, I don't think there's enough air passing over the motor to cool it sufficiently. I'd like to make one that cleans all the rails on all lanes at once and is battery powered.

Unrelated, but what did you use for the black trim on top of your clear walls? Looks sharp!

Yeah, I wanted to know that too??

Looks like 1/16" rubber edge trim or plastic door edge trim? You can find both on Amazon. I use rubber edge trim, same stuff I use as rub rail on rc boats, available online from Vac-u-boat. Hope this helps ya'll?

What brand of track do you have installed? Looking to get back into this hobby after 50 years plus, layoff looks great by the way.

I use an acid called one restore for restoring metal parts. I would be tempted to try it

Is that cork that you're using along the sides of the track?

No way on cork. Our tracks are made 8" wide including the border

What about a small amount of oxalic acid on a rag.
@PghMtbRides3 жыл бұрын
Why not just use diluted IPA solvent, since WD40 has solvent anyways.. no greasy residue.

How much is a track like that

Around 6k
@scottmartinetti48753 жыл бұрын
@@viperscaleracing ok. Is that on a table ready to go, or in pieces, diy assembly? I'd love to see your layout and build it with temp track, and see which one I would get from you guys
