HO SLOT CARS vs FREIGHT TRAIN HO Scale Layout - Crashes at Road & Rail crossing

Playing with our slot cars and HO train on 4x8 table. This time with a jump across the track, a figure 8 train layout, and of course, the road crossing. More carnage, some intentional, some not. Featuring our NASCAR cars - with my used Bellsouth stock car.
This is built on the 4x8 table that we normally use for building our Lego models and sets. My son has been wanting to play with the slot cars for awhile, so we cleared off the Lego and set up a simple layout using our Atlas Tru-Trak and Aurora & Tyco slot car track. I bought a couple on eBay years ago when I first discovered eBay. I had been looking for the crossing for years since I failed to purchase the Tyco Road and Rail set that had one. I paid too much for them and later found one at Hobby Town USA for about $5.

BrickTsar Toys I got my slotcars stuff going this week. I’ll set it up and race with my niece some time over the weekend. I don’t have kids of my own so I’m looking forward to it. That’s her in my picture in front of my engine collection/display.

COOL, ive restored a rail layout, and im thinking of making a rip track with the cars going across the track, i dont have as much road as you do, and its more focused around trains than the the cars, but i think you did a gread job!! you gat another like from me! (that ramp idea and jumping over the flat car was EPIC!)

***** Im planning on having a bridge going over the track (as well as a crossing) and on the bridge there is a switch lane track piece where cars would would crash into each other and fall onto the tracks below.

***** and about the O scale box car, i think it could work (it would be harder to jump through, but you could have a train of 5 boxcars, so there would be more chances) remember, O is twice as big as HO.

Maybe try using a depressed flatcar instead of a standard flat.. The car seems to hit the flat right at the very side.. By lowering the body of the flat, you increase your chances of making the jump.. Just a suggestion.

So I see you have horn block cars. I got a trick that you can swap then without having to spend like a lot of money like the modelers say. If there life like. The trucks should detach. Take the horn koock out. There should be a nob at the center. OK. Now go buy home nickel couplers. You should be able to put the knuckle coupler in the center on the nob. Now it is secure and you didn't,t have to tear into the car. Neat right?

Joe Newstead if you mean "horn hook" and "knuckle" couplers - you are correct. I prefer knuckle couplers on my models - but these toy trains it is not a big deal.

Did you ever make the boxcar? I do all kinds of custom train work from simply changing couplers up to 1 off fantasy or exact prototype builds including paint and decal work. I would think an 86’ autoparts boxcar would work perfect. They’re already a hi-cube car so they’re tall and they come in 4 door/double door where the doors are in the middle of the car or an 8 door/4-double door setup where the doors are closer to the ends. It wouldn’t be much work to remove the doors. If you’re careful you could even reattach the doors in the open position. Thanks to you I just discovered the train/car crossing and must acquire one. My niece just found my old slotcars and the one set is the wall climber that goes upside down and has the same jump as yours. I need to make the boxcar now and surprise her with it!
