Had a thought that after you manage to dwindle down your basement hoard to the point you are happy with, maybe you could have a few new large cabinets with non-perishables in case something like this happens again. If nothing happens to your home it could also be shared with the organisations that are on the ground helping people that have lost their homes. Personally want a system like this in my future home, but I'm a little paranoid and a lot anxious.
@ahoardersheart3 жыл бұрын
@@hmms5256 oh that is a great idea!! I feel the cabinet of non-perishable is coming from a place of love…if something happens my family is taken care of. I can also help others in need too! I would just need to make sure it’s just one cabinet tho! Lol Thank you so much for sharing ❤️🙏🏻❤️

For anyone who doesn’t have a basement, the most interior room without a window is the next safest spot. A bathroom due to plumbing in the walls & a tub is best, but hall closet, laundry room can work too. I’m in Texas and our “safe room” is a bathroom about the size of a public bathroom stall. 😣 (whoever designs houses clearly doesn’t think about local weather problems sometimes…)
@ahoardersheart3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone ❤️🙏🏻❤️ Jersey homes (and many other states) were not built for this kind of weather! We don’t have tornado shelters so basements or interior rooms are our only choices 🙏🏻
@texadianstitcher3 жыл бұрын
@@ahoardersheart well a basement is best, but the ground in many areas of Texas is not conducive to basements. So because the basement is pretty much a dream, we get other options (assuming our homes are designed for those options...) And I'll admit to waking up to the weather radio screaming, check the trajectory of a storm & go back to sleep because the chance I'll be impacted is minimal. We've had very few storms that might actually be dangerous to us nearby...but grapefruit hail and a tornado beginning to form overhead and a few lightning strike stories; I'm sure others would need a change of pants after hearing, but we've grown...accustomed? to watching for. What we're not accustomed to is having the power turned off for days in the winter because power companies refuse to prep for once a decade storms. We prep for tornados, not "I need electricity to move the fan for our gas furnace".

Many prayers for the families who have been affected by this devastating storm. So happy you and your family were safe and all is ok. I believe God did whisper in your ear to encourage you to do the basement now instead of later Honestly it looks like just the right amount of space was done to give you all enough space to be there. I believe He will keep your heart at peace during your next phase and help give you even further peace of mind that in case of another emergency your family will continue to be safe. In Australia, in the place where I live we've had a couple of close calls with Bushfires. Our only option will be to leave and leave almost everything we've worked for behind. When you're up against the power of nature, it puts everything into perspective. Please keep decluttering and make sure that your basement and your home is a safe place for you and your family to shelter. Unfortunately, like our increased bushfire problems, tornados could well be the challenge that you'll be facing more in times to come. All we can do is, do our best to be prepared.

We feel so bad for the people that had their homes destroyed in a matter of minutes. We received the alert to shelter on our phones and took the cat to the basement until it passed. Pretty scary feeling. I grew up in this area and do not recall hearing about tornadoes. Now it happens more frequently.

I’m so happy you’re safe! 🥺 It’s really something how God or the Universe or whatnot works, and you were able to go downstairs without much warning and be prepared to face this emergency fairly comfortably. 2 years ago, I think you would have had a bad time facing the hurricane and the clutter and keeping yourself ok for everybody. With only keeping the most important stuff, and letting the rest go, I think you’ll get a lot more out of that basement. You could put a sofa-bed and TV down there in case there’s ever a hurricane again. Your neighbours may have lost a lot, but they’re all ok, and that’s the most important thing. Stay strong.

After a really bad storm the next day is always beautiful and without any clouds. A complete opposite of the previous horrific day.

Hoping everyone over there is alright. The tornado looked terrifying and beautiful from your first friend's house. My state is in a perfect geographical position where the worst natural events to occur with us is flooding and extremely strong winds, almost no one has any kind of basement.
