I just want to thank you so much. I always thought I was just messy and disorganized, but your vids made me realize that 'just messy' people don't keep warranties from their windows Vista laptop or have new life evolving in their nightstand. I found soldering flux in my makeup drawer. I don't even have a soldering iron! Why, past Thalia? Whyyyyy?! 🤣 Anyway, I've gotten help and started cleaning. I put on your vids in the background for motivation and it helps 👍

Good job be sure to “follow through” by breaking down boxes and put in the recycle bin, or drive the things to donation and putting stuff in it’s home . Don’t take to another part of the house and clutter up another spot. This would be a good topic for a video. So proud of you!

Gosh you’re doing so well! The way you can just casually toss things that I know you would have previously agonised over - seriously impressed! I know some other commenters don’t agree with your “rough draft” method but I can see the sense. Yes, it probably WILL take longer but as you know, to KonMari you need to have everything together first so this seems like a good plan. I’ve never been a hoarder but as I have been simplifying I’ve definitely done several waves of decluttering, paring it down with each round. What used to spark joy doesn’t anymore as I learn to have, and enjoy having, less. Good luck to you and long may your progress continue! ❤️

Something that may help you declutter is to make sure you fill your storage bins completely instead of using two bins half full for example you had two bins of childhood sentimental items could you possibly fit that all into one bin

Seriously, this is a great tip. Just make sure all bins have a lid! I used to have those cute IKEA fabric baskets and not only does everything inside get dusty, but it's just way too tempting to keep piling things on top.

This is a great tip for people on the spectrum. Executive function disorder is a pain and if we are forced to make permanent, unchangeable decisions about the storage location of each and every item before we can progress, we just panic and freeze. Just chuck everything you're keeping into bins. Sort a little if a few things obviously belong together, but you don't have to get it right the first pass. You're just looking for improvement. This attitude keeps the pressure off.
@annem39083 жыл бұрын
You're doing so well! Erica Lucas has made sections during her basement declutter e.g. all boxes for sentimental stuff are in one area. Would something like that help you? That way you would not have to search for the box of your sentimental childhood items amongst all the boxes when you do the big konmari one day. You could have a big label on the wall "baby toys" and put all those baby toy boxes below that label. Kind of like how you already have all your christmas boxes together in one area.

My entire life is a rough organization 😂. Loved that analogy, so true that just like writing takes revision so does organization. They make sticky labels for packages that might work better for labeling the bins, because they would be less likely to fall or tear off.

As I watch this video and listen to your thinking process, it's so familiar. I'm so happy for your healing. I feel the same as I go through my stuff. Why did I keep this in the first place? I can let it go now. It's okay to let this go. I no longer need it. The void it pretend to fill has healed. Even when you keep things. You keep it because you're not ready to let that go yet, and that's okay. It's okay. Thank you for sharing your journey.

The rough organisation will help so much. I did this over summer and, as well as being off work with back problems, please don’t shift those more than you need to! I had to really question whether it was worth keeping some things I found since, so it’s good to make sure I want to keep it, but it took at least 10 mins to put 4 things away. It’ll take up more space, but you’re much more likely to put things in the labelled bins if you can easily get to those bins without hurting yourself or leaving it til layer and not completing the task as you’re wanting to (in exactly the same in this way! I nearly didn’t put those 4 childhood things in my storage but I promised myself I had to if it was that important to keep!). Please don’t stack too many on top. It’ll take up more space to spread them out, but there’s a quickly growing amount of that!

Same with the Madonna costume and the black knee boots. Obviously part of this disorder involves anxiety, after making the decision to toss. So many times the items make their way back into the pile. Hoping each time she does this it is easier, and easier, to actually bring those items to the bin/recycling/donation center. Only she knows her true progress, so the best we can do is cheer her on! She is doing great even if only throwing away trash at this point. 👏🎉

You are doing so good! And don't be ashamed of shoving some stuff from one to the other wall. You are still making progress with letting go of trash and stuff you don't have attachments to. Maybe it is part of the hoarding or add that you are doing this and showing this part of you helds you accountable for your behaviour (which simultaniously doesn't mean that you are not making progress). It is ok if you slip back a little (or slip back more than a little). You can still be proud of yourself. To not feel overwhelmed of all the stuff is a huge thing and i guess even people without hoarding and add would quit at some point. But you keep pushing and this is a strength of yours. Also if you aren't already doing this: don't store electrical (or other) stuff in the basement if you already decided to let it got. For myself it worked best to store things that has to go out of the house in plain sight so it keeps reminding me to get rid of it. i installed a box for electrical equipment in the garage, so whenever something is broken it can go directly into that box and has a temporarily home and everyone in the family knows that so it won't accumulate somewhere in the house.
