I think keeping the stuffed animals together is a good idea, but also you could also ask your husband to have the boys _not_ buy you more stuffed animals, or physical gifts at all, and instead go out to dinner together or have an experience as a family for christmas and bday gifts. That way you don't keep accumulating! For electronics, look for ewaste recycling programs in your area, or take it to Best Buy and give it to them to recycle. In my area, you can drop ewaste in a certain area at the dump and Goodwill will even accept ewaste.

Awesome! What if you kept one pony that was given to you from each boy and then donate the rest to a children’s hospital, or a place like Vera house. I think you would have a somewhat easier time letting go if you know the sentimental items are bringing joy to someone else. Have a chat with the boys that you so love that they gifted them to you but you would like to pass the joy on to another child. I bet they would love seeing the joy on a child’s face when they donated those ponies. Just a thought. So proud of you! You are a true inspiration! 😊💖

Great job again! I agree with a bunch of the other people who commented that you should see when you gather all your unicorns if you can get rid of some, and if you can't, display them somewhere since you're clearly fond of them. And yes, ask your boys to get you something else like an experience for Christmas and birthdays. That way the ponies won't take over your house :) As always super proud of how far you've come!

Nice to see the bed was made. If nothing else gets done that day to organize or declutter, make your bed. It may give you the momentum to declutter another spot in the room. Keep going . It's starting to look Great! Remember that if you get the room organized, you can get new windows. That could be another small goal for that room.

I’ve been watching your videos for a couple weeks and finally something I can comment on! My nephew, who is 7, loves to give my parents stuffed animals that he thinks they would like, but my parents don’t have a good place for them in their house. So what they do is they ask him to “babysit” the toys for them. Then, sometimes when they all go out together (like the zoo or a restaurant) they bring one of those toys on their trip and take pictures. So this way, he knows that they value the gift he’s given them, he gets to play with the toy, and there is always at least one picture of them enjoying it together.

you are doing a great job and should be very proud of yourself. if you wanna have ponies, have ponies, the point is not to chuck out everything you love but to make room for it by chucking the things you don't...personally Im a fan of those toy nets that go up in the corner and hold stuffies so you can look at it and say look at my stuffies or once in a while get one down but they are up out of the floor and out of the way without taking a ton of otherwise usable wall space
@rokkenrobyn64625 жыл бұрын
Think of this too, with gifts and such. You want to respect your objects and it does in a way respect the gift giver too when your gift is either loved, used, and it feels welcome instead of being a pile on the floor. I'm sure they'll love seeing you store them nice and neat

Great job! And I agree with the other comments about your sense of humor. That is the number one thing that has gotten me through life. So glad that you have such a great one. I totally understand about the little ponies. There are certain things that just have to stay. And even though you mention all the dust and stuff, it really isn't that bad, especially when two or three years have gone by and that's all the dust you have. I actually think you have a pretty well insulated house in order to have that small amount of dust. Everything you talk about is so relatable, I think to more people than you realize. Not just hoarders, but regular people. LOL. Sometimes, stuff just gets away from us. Like the empty boxes or empty bags. Day one, We think we might use them for something. And then we get busy and forget about them for years. I believe just about everybody has a hoard of some sort. And I also totally it what you said about not being able to bring somebody in to fix the windows because you don't want them to see your room. You're almost there! Soon, you'll be able to bring somebody in and not being in the least bit embarrassed.! I am so very proud of you!

I keep so many empty boxes too, I keep telling myself I’ll use them but they hardly ever get used. I love crystals, I got a few on holidays at one time and they’ve been sat in a jar. I’ve found a cardboard shadow box online with little shelves in it that I’m planning on buying and using some of my decoupage crafty supplies to decorate. Then I’ll use up some crafting stuff and have a pretty box to display my little holiday bits and bobs in protected from dust. I really hate dusting all those little things! Maybe with the ponies you could have a little shelf with a few of them on up on the wall and put the others somewhere else but rotate the ones on display. I have a few things I want to look at at times in a shelf in my wardrobe in front of the boxes for storage so I look at them when I get my clothes but they don’t create a pile. Plus they get less dusty in there!

And I am really happy for you that you got your system by going trough sections in each room so you can really focus on things and also store things in their home in rools you already decluttered!!
@gwendolynnieman5 жыл бұрын
And from experience: once you are finished decluttering everything as much as you are doing right now go through your things maybe once a year or what suits you best timewise... so you can look if something is not your liking anymore or out of date or otherwise garbage or something... so it doesn't start accumulating again... I have to force myself to do this every now and then but it really works. Also: I think many people told you this already... donating or selling things is really a good way to not feel guilty "throwing" things away... because of that I like the idea of the yardsale you menotioned you wanted to do...

Since those Ponys are high sentimental-things for you, it would be nice to display them instead of stuffing them into a basket..? Could there be any idea to put (for example) a long curtain-rod on the wall and attach ponys there with small clips? Add some cord to adjust each ponys height. They have wings and I guess that means that they are meant to be in the air😀 I have had curtain-rod on the wall and its handy to hang tapestry or pictures. No need to drill holes every single time when I want to adjust the looks of the room.😊😊

I'm thinking that maybe when you are ready to redecorate, you should paint the nightstand white and put a couple of shelves over it to put some items, like one pony, the crystals, a picture of the family and whatnot. The rest of the ponies could be put in storage if you're not ready to give them away and rotate them on the shelves to keep one on display at times.

If you love the my little ponies then give them the respect they deserve and get a display shelf or a bedroom chair or basket you display them on so you see and enjoy them. Things you really love don't usually end up on the floor, perhaps what you really feel when you see them is an external reflection of the love your children have for you. They love you unconditionally and they know you love them, not keeping things they made or gave at some time does not change the love you have for each other.

Gah! You did so good. :-) You could use the iPhone boxes for organizing small things in your nightstand, if you were going to clean out the inside of it as well. Old cell phone can be taken to any drop box in most phone stores (like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) They should have a drop box inside. Our local Verizon refurbishes old phones and gives them to women in crisis. As for the MLP... I would ask your boys to each pick one that is their favorite that they gave you, and donate the rest. Think how happy they will make some child, where as they were just shoved by your bed, collecting dust before. :-/

For the ponies I know you want your master to be a retreat and maybe they don’t match that, what about a simple ikea shelf high up somewhere like your laundry room that’s maybe a foot or two down from the ceiling that works as display and out of the way JUST for ponies and maybe the unicorn marquee light as a colourful display?

Repurpose a sentimental or beautiful cup or container as a vertical pen and scissors holder?

Apple will recycle old phones, or there are loads of places online that will take them if you're not near an Apple store. Maybe a shelf to put the ponies on?

Tech recycling is free at both staples and office depot. I believe that each person can take in 5-6 "items" per day. An old desktop computer counts as 2 items (the monitor and the cpu), a laptop and charger counts as one item. Note: my local staples tried to up-sell me on their points/rewards club, but having the points/rewards club is NOT required for recycle. If you are concerned about data or privacy you can always pull the SIM cards or HDD to keep and just recycle the carcasses.

Our Kroger has what they call an eco ATM and it's for recycling old phones and sometimes (depending on the phone and condition) you will get money for them 😀

This is unrelated to decluttering. My mom is a teacher and she coughs a lot, so she would suck on halls and minty things, but her doctor told her (after a pneumonia she had) that minty things are a huge no-no, they hurt your vocal cords and your lungs more. She recommended instead water with a bit of honey, ginger and lemon. It works wonders for colds too, and if you ever happen to need to clear your voice or something, it really helps. It could be an alternative to cough drops in case you find yourself without them and in need of something.

Oh thank you!!! That’s good to know!!!

I have a question. How many rooms do you have? To keep them clean once decluttered, try to clean one room per day. Or some small on one day. Plus do a 20 minute clean in the whole house just to bring things back to their place when you didn't manage to bring them back right after use 😊

What about a shelf near the ceiling to display your plushies? Edit: you could put them in your bedside table if you remove whatever's in there now. :)

👋🏼 Hi! I had an idea 💡 I wanted to throw your way 😉 I know you feel sentimental towards stuffed animals and that’s ok! You may not ever get rid of them and that’s ok too- but I was getting the feeling you felt sentimental but overwhelmed a bit or even frustrated at the same time. I know you love the idea of transferring joy and it’s very fulfilling to you so I thought I’d mention this and see what you thought! You could take stuffed animals to your local children’s hospital, and you and your boys could pass them out to kids who have terminal illnesses. You would be surprised at what small things can bring joy to those children. There are some who are often in there alone due to their parents still having to work or just not caring. Unicorns and ponies represent magical and hopeful experiences and it would be a great message for those kids! It would be a wonderful experience for everyone involved 😊 just a thought- no hate whatsoever either way! But I know you were looking for ideas from people while on this journey 😉 btw- I’ve loved watching your journey so far!

try donating a plushie, i know its sentimental but the keeping of all of them isnt compatible with your goal: space to live and grow and be happy and finding out who you are underneath the hoarder. i enjoy your progress and your videos so much, you are doing GREAT!
