Here we go!!!! Time to tackle Brandon’s closet now!! He loved how Tyler’s room looks so he wanted to clear out his closet too! We have really healed a lot in our hoarding disorder where I can have my son have control of what he is decluttering! I am not feeling any panic attacks coming on and actually feel happy to Declutter with him!!

This is a perfect opportunity to combine all his “summer” and “winter” wardrobes into one closet! There’s so much room and it makes it very easy to declutter clothes as he grows when everything is in one place. Congrats on another huge pile! 🎉

Y’all need a game center where all the board games live, since they are for playing as a family. If they live in your boys closets they will mainly be forgotten and taking up space. Can you transform on of your pieces in the living room into a game shelf? Or in the basement
@cmck2021

This is true. When I moved the board games to my son's closet from the hall closet we don't play the games as much. I moved them to his room to put my college studies in that space. I now have room in my closet so may move the games back to the hall closet.

I keep on thinking of the shelves your husband built by the fireplace. Maybe the bottom ones could be for family games and family albums. The top can be for displays. I think fun memories would grow from that, and maybe even help motivate to get homework, etc done a bit better! It depends upon how you want to use the space. One tip with where to store things is to store things where they are used as much as possible.

In my opinion, I think it's ok to keep them in their rooms for now, only because Ms. Heart and Brandon and Ty all know where they are and it's been established for years. But I also agree that the basement would be the ultimate place to keep them when it's ready, as that will be the family playroom area. I think that because they have so many games, putting them in the living room would feel cluttered.

I agree. Everything should be put in their own place instead of all the functions together in one area. Only clothing items in the closet and her kids can sort them out themselves and declutter their own clothes.

I think might be better to keep the living/dining area clear for eating and chilling, basement would be a perfect place to gather to play games together if they are going to create a play area anyway!?

I'm all for "the closet is just for clothes". You could hang the pants on the top rod... and the sommer clothes too (or put them on the top shelves?)! The toys don't belong there, specially considering Brandon is growing up, soon won't want to have so many toys and has furniture to keep them elsewhere in his room. The closet next to the main door (where you found $$) could be a good place for the family games if you all play together in the living room

I agree, pull bottoms next to shirts and get rid of the low bar. . Put all the family games together, also from the other closet! Maybe use the shelves in the laundry room for family games so everyone could reach it? If both boys get family games out of their rooms then the shelves could be only for their things!

For pants, we hang ours on regular hangers "dress pant style", folded in half through the hanger. It lets you still hang them, but also keeps them shorter and off the floor. Great job on that closet! Can't wait to see the final organization!! :)

I'm not sure how tall he is compared to the closet but I would consider keeping a step stool inside. Maybe a folding one so they don't accidentally turn into shelves. Also, try to keep very light items on the shelves so no one gets hurt if they fall. I wouldn't recommend using baskets for the shelves, it might be difficult to pick out specific items. Sets of items that need to be used together, such as coloring books and colored pencils, might work in baskets. Just remember to label them clearly. :)

Those top shelves he can't reach should definitely be seasonal or long-term storage. Maybe see if there's anything else in your house taking up valuable accessible storage that doesn't need to be in reach all the time? And then swap them so he can have his board games for instance in a place he doesn't have to climb to reach.

I would let stack the games on top of each other... I would put them on their end so you can slide them out easier. Also... I saw where someone mentioned hanging a game night and each night pick a different game from the closet and have a family game nights playing the game and then at the end... decide if it was fun and worth keeping. That way all the games get played and they can decide which ones to keep and get rid of but also spend time as a family.

You have done so great with giving your children a beautiful bedroom space to relax and play in! Great job, mama! I use to want to sell and have yard sales too, but the amount of time and space required to store the items was not worth my sanity. Instead, I use to have my local Rescue Mission pick up monthly and I would put items in the donate pile as I came across them. It made a world of difference. If my kids wanted new toys they had to declutter a couple of toys first. And with the exception of Christmas I would hardly ever buy them toys as they would always be gifted tons of toys for birthdays and Christmas.

You’re on a roll! I have a few tips: 1. I LOVE how you’re focused on bringing things to your kid’s level. Have him reach up towards the upper shelves. That’s your upper boundary. 2. I LOVE how you used the cubes for games in Ty’s closet. That could work here too. Maybe some games the whole family enjoys playing together can go in the Family Room. 3. Clothes - It’s good to go through kid’s clothes yearly. Growth spurts happen and sometimes growth is slower. I would use the highest shelves for “off-season clothes”, sports clothes (like Ty’s closet) and future wardrobe (one for summer ☀️ and one for winter ❄️). 4. Gift Giving Zone: Maybe on the top shelf there can be a tote for gifts he will give family and friends for their birthday or Christmas. It can be a neat place for them to anticipate giving and to “be prepared”. 5. Clothes: Our sons preferred to hang pants 👖 full length. Nice button up shirts 👔 got hung up. T-shirts, pajamas and clothes by category may do best being folded into drawers. 6. HINT: If you separate clothes by season, but store organizers with the off-season clothes, it may simply switches for the season. When you do the switch, do it with your sons for the next few years. Then they will most likely be fine to make the switch themselves. I also highly recommend sorting by season because in high school I had to “deal with” my son wanting to wear shorts when it was 5 degrees outside! Skip the problem now by creating two separate wardrobes that get rotated . 7. I LOVE how you started by having Brandon choose what to let go. Maybe next week he can get a declutter basket too. You were great when you saw a dream that didn’t happen because it “got lost” to state it, express sorry 😐, but then use the experience as a learning tool for why you want to overcome the hoarding tendencies. You don’t want to miss moments with your kids because “too much” does lead to “overwhelmed” and unintentionally missing opportunities. Having what you really want around you helps to focus on what’s more important. Maybe that’s a good question to ask your sons ... what do you want to play with most with your brother, family, relatives and friends? There’s a lot that we enjoy, but maybe what we actually will use is less. Do what feels good inside and what you’re ready for. 8. I REALLY LIKED how you created a zone for socks, undies, pajamas, etc. Our sons have loved that thru the years! It helped them out things away and be content with what they had. It also made it easier to declutter as time goes by. They could see what they really prefer to wear and what “they just don’t use”. Just for information sake, one son only wore jeans, another almost never wore jeans and the third passed the others in height, so not everything fit. It’s okay and important for them to experience their taste in clothes ... as long as it’s modest. I’m looking forward to next week’s video! I think it will feel great when it’s done!

I like the idea others had where you hang all his clothes on the top shelf with the trousers on hangers with the middle bit so they fold over. That way there's tons of space on the floor for games/toys/bags. If it's something Brandon's interested in - you could also put summer and winter clothes there too and have a 'summer' side and a 'winter' side because, unless something's definitely only suitable for one season over the other, he could probably wear it year-round. You could also do what you did in Tyler's room and put all sentimental items/seasonal sports goods/things he's outgrown/stuff you're not ready to let go of just yet on the top shelf. Same with the toys and games, if they're games/toys both boys play with - have them low down so the boys can reach them and if they're family games - put them in an easy-to-access neutral space where everyone can get to them.

Yay very good! I would either hang the pants/shorts on the top or hang them differently so they dont get on the floor because of the dust... Also I would put the boardgames all together. If its one that reslly only Tyler or Bramdon plays with then put them in their closets. But all the ones you paly together maybe put in a shelf in the basement once there is space for that

So you don't forget what you have.. :) I also would hang all clothes on the higher rod and place a cube organizer that are 2x3 (Tylor has also these in his room) on the bottom lying to store stuff.(hopefully you get what I mean!! :D)

Way to go! You both did an amazing job! So some possible ideas/suggestions - 1. Put a 3/4 or short book case on the right side of closet or use the wire shelving like you have on top but you can use the wall track + supports hanging method so they shelves can be adjusted. - either of these will allow flexibility as storage needs change - will put things within his reach 2. He could then use the shelf right above clothes to line up his stuffed animals - then if he wants to see them, he can just open the closet door. 3. I agree with others on creating a central game spot since your family enjoys them so much. You are doing so well in decluttering, you could create a space so they can be close to living room/main table or in basement so they are all together. - a closet can be used - a bookcase or two - an old buffet/armoire /old TV cabinets If you don't have one. FB or Craig's list might help you find one inexpensively. (And in general I would not advocate bringing new stuff in right now but in this case the correct piece could help create a wonderful game spot for your family) 4. My son likes his pants in drawers, but if your son likes them hung up, fold them over or hang on bar next to sweatshirts? 5. I know you had the cube shelf in the living area- maybe you can pick a couple art kits per a week to move out to a cubby to encourage they get used. It could even be built into the weekly schedule *i.e Fun Friday and you spend 20 minutes on kits or whatever. You both did such a good job, looks like you will have plenty of room to put everything in with room to spare. I look forward to seeing it! This video made me 🙂 - thanks for sharing.

Given the amount of unopened toys and uneaten candy you find every time you declutter your sons’ stuff, it feels like they receive an overwhelming amount of stuff. Not only are they not using everything, they don’t even remember things that are missing. I know you give them so many gifts because you want to make them happy, but it’s possible it’s making them overwhelmed, stressed, and more dissatisfied by giving them so much. Even if they receive something they enjoy their so overwhelmed by the volume of stuff they shut down emotionally and can’t appreciate any of it or even identify what they like out of the whole mass of stuff. Then it happens again every time they go to play because they have so much “noise” to filter through to find the things they really enjoy.

Hi, is there a small shelving unit in your basement that you can put in your son’s closet? 1) He will be able to easily access his games and toys, since he will not have to reach above his head to get what he wants. I find that overhead storage with children is a waste because it is often out of their reach. 2). The games and toys will be better organized and more easily put away. Also, the stacking and toppling of items will be eliminated.

If he wants to keep the lower rail then the other side of the closet can have a storage unit up to the upper rail. That would hold all the games. And like with Tyler, bring all his summer clothes up from the basement and put them on the high shelves so that everything is together when you sort the clothes for the next season.

You could add another wire shelf below the current hanging rod to give you a full shelf of storage and he can reach his cloths easier. It is cheaper than buying a new storage cube. But like you say, shop your stash first! Also a step stool for each of the boys. Im short, so I have one in my closet too!

Great job! Your entire house has come a long way! I've thought about how you say that you don't want things to end up in a landfill. I totally agree, but we as consumers have to realize that it's not our fault. The companies that mass produce stuff that is non-recycleable or just completely unsustainable have the bulk of the responsibility. We can chose to purchase or not, but we have to free ourselves of the guilt that isn't ours to begin with. It's still important that we choose wisely, but it's time that we make these businesses accountable for their actions at the start. Just some food for thought. Proud of your accomplishments and always touched by your kind heart. ❤

This is involves a purchase but the space it saves is amazing. Board games take up so much space. Amazon has these large clear zip up folder type things. The games that will fit u stuff in one of those bags along with the instructions...cut out the name of the game off the box and stick in there so u can see the name from the outside and store them file method style in one of those large cube bins. The bulky boxes and plastic can be recycled and it declutters and frees up a bunch of room. Jamie from Jamies Journey introduced that to me and its a life changer for real!

Stellar decluttering job! While I agree that you have enough room for this closer to hold both summer and winter clothes, he won’t use the summer clothes, so I would be inclined to get what’s not being used out of the way with a small bin and put it on the top shelf (out of reach because you don’t need it for several months) or even one of those clothing bags that you roll or vacuum the air out of. I really like the notion of keeping what we use all the time at our fingertips, so if he has games or toys that are rarely used, I would keep them higher up. If he has less than a full closet of items, perhaps there are things in the room that could be stored in the closet, like a laundry hamper, or plushie collection.

I would get storage boxes for the top shelves and label them. It will help keep the top of the shelves look tidy and also by having set boxes it will help sorting in the future as everything will have its place. Any games take them out the box and put them into food bags and they'll fit better into a storage box especially if they're card games or if the box is falling apart

Great job!! Hang pants on top rod to open up the floor space. Do you have a family linen closet that you could maybe use a shelf for the most played with family games? Or how about on that nice shelf you have in the laundry room? Keep up the great work!!! 🦄 💜

Wow! I can not believe all that stuff was in your oldest son closet! You and your son did a great job getting rid of so much! When organized it will be helpful! You organize well👍 I would put all the clothes on top bar and in his dresser, get all the family games (from both boys closets) and put in cube shelves in living room or laundry room. Put only things that are just for the boys to play with in their closet . The oldest son can put things on shelves in closet (if can not reach get a stool for him), he is taller so he should be able to reach with a stool!

Nicely done, both of you! Looking good! My first thought is what to do with those high shelves, especially since you say you have a tendency to forget about things that get put out of sight. That may be a good place for off-season clothing, since it's the kind of thing that only has to be accessed a couple times per year (but you won't totally forget about it, as you'll be looking for weather-appropriate clothes as the seasons change). I don't recall where your kids' off-season clothing may be stored currently, but moving them could potentially free up space that's more accessible so could be used for things you want to be able to get to more easily / more often. It looks like the other main thing in this space is toys & games, so maybe a cube unit or some sort of shelving so that those can live on the right side of the closet where the boys can reach them. Maybe ask Brandon to pick out his favorites / the ones he uses most often, since it may not all fit in that space.

I would really LOVE to see you do the same in Brandons room as you did in Tylers. Put clothes in his dresser, put a cube cabinet for toys/games and get his closet looking as nice as his brothers. If he really wants to keep his pants in there, you can fold those and put them in the cubes.. Great job young man, you did a marvelous job removing stuff you dont use

maybe store all the board games vertically instead of horizontally, like books in a library. it'll be easier to take them out and less stressful to actually use/play them. also i agree the clothes should all be on the top rod, so theres more space on the bottom for toys he can access without a stool

Maybe a stepladder or step stool so he can reach the top shelves? Do you know any kids with birthdays coming up to give the "new" toys too? Save money that way. Yeah, that's a boys room finding food. Did you ever go through his dresser? Maybe it's worth a look through like you did with Tyler's room. Anyway good job to you both, all. Looks good.

Yes, if there are a lot of things in the dresser that could be purges, maybe the pants could be folded in the drawers.

I agree with some of the comments if you combine all the boards games they won’t be forgotten and will want to play with them more often somewhere we’re the entire family gathers . Put shelf higher in the closet to and fold the bottoms and put them there

Once again a great decluttering video. Congrats on having Brandon to help in the decluttering process. My mother never included me in anything having to do with my room except twice she tore up things in my room scaring me. I always had everything neat and clean. I never knew why she did not like me.

Wow! You have decluttered so much I think you could probably fit all of his clothes in the closet for both summer and winter rather than rotating them out. You are very lucky your closets are so big! In the UK ours are about half the size and we mostly keep summer and winter stuff together except for coats because they are so bulky. Also having seen how many board games you all have I think maybe you should have them all live in one place like either the living room or the basement if you do end up turning a section of it into a play area.

Your boys have inherited your generous spirit!! What a great video! I think maybe a step stool in the closet would be helpful so he can reach whatever he chooses to store up high.

agree with others that it may be worthwhile to store all board games together, not some in one boy's closet and some in the other, since they're family items. do you have any shelving units stored in the basement you could put into the closet to organize toys? also, I can't remember, did you declutter brandon's dresser in the previous series? it may be good to go through it again and declutter any clothes not needed in the dresser, then you could store pants in there perhaps like you did for tyler, or even move the dresser into the closet and use spare space in the dresser to store toys. great job!!

Ur son is so good at decluttering!! U both did an amazing job! Ur gonna have a heck of a yard sale w the kids old clothes & toys!👍🏻👍🏻 here’s an idea I got from one of my fave KZbinr’s jamielynn’s journey...to save the space she uses large reusable ziplocks for the board games...cut & tape the name of the game onto the bag. Then puts all the ziplocks into a bin! It would be great for ur boys games! 👍🏻 ❤️🙏🏻

You have done another amazing job. Perhaps Brandon could hang all his clothes from the top rungs, pants on the right side that is free and then some sort of storage in the bottom for all the games that you want easily accessible.

I just love that you could do a whole closet over 2 days. I think a cube shelf like you have in your other sons room for all the games. I would get rid of the pant rod and either fold or put on higher bar. I can’t wait to see you do your bedroom .
