Try the spool runner and weld aluminum, you're going to like it. It's fun! The gas is called Argon and it has to be 100%.

HOBART is excellence! It is up there with MILLER and LINCOLN. You have a welder that is commonly used in the fabrication of heavy duty gates, machine shops and general auto repair.

You can up grade the wire size buy the .045 mig wire in the Hobart Handler 210 MVP you have to get a drive wheel for wire , .045 ,and a .045 tip and .045 flux coat wire . The tech at Hobart told me you can use the liner that is in stinger .
@OldSoulMillennial Жыл бұрын
Great tip, I had no idea that you could modify this welder to accept .045 wire. However, I'll happily stick with my .030 because it works for my needs.

What happened to the 10 year overview? How often do you use the welder? Have you maxed it out at both input voltages? Have you tried welding with fluxed-cored wire? How did it perform, the welder not the wire?

Instead of using your zip tie to hold the ground wires in. Unconnect the wire thread it through the hole in your ground clamp from the inside and reattach. Should help alot and great overview!

if one switches from the 210v to 115v. will one be able to weld 3/8th mild steel?
@OldSoulMillennial6 ай бұрын
@@Tonygarry78 Not well. The 115v in my experience is good for making small repairs on thin metal. If you plan to weld thicker metals, 230v is really needed. Don’t get me wrong, you likely could weld 3/8 in a pinch, but the weld wouldn’t have the heat and penetration required for a strong weld.

Aside from the information that's on the manual, what is your experience with this welder? How is the performance? Do you recommend buying it?
@OldSoulMillennial2 жыл бұрын
To keep it short, its done everything I've asked and more. I would buy this welder again in a heart beat. Only annoyance, on larger jobs you hit the duty cycle and have to let the machine recoup for 10 minutes.

The ground wire is supposed to go through the hole in the clamp handle. That will help prevent the bending back and forth.

I have a Miller Mig welder that's about the same size as yours. I think these welders are more of an entry level welder. I don't weld as much as I would like, but it is great to have one around and know how to use it. I watch a guy on KZbin called JIMBO'S GARAGE. He uses some higher end welders. You may want to check him out. Thanks for the video, I do enjoy them.

Thanks for the comment Darrell. What I like is the versatility between 115 and 230. It's saved me many times over the years. If I was doing production work, I would absolutely invest in a commercial grade unit. I would really like to buy a Tig welder one day. Just can't justify the purchase at this point in time. l'll check out Jimbo

Good video. Thanks! Curious, how much money total for the MIG, and everything else you might need? I see the MiG for around $1000 but you definitely need other tools and parts.
@OldSoulMillennial2 жыл бұрын
Depends what you wanna do. I mean you can buy a 10 pound spool of flux corded wire for 40 bucks and be welding. I usually prefer solid core wire, which requires shielding gas. You'll have to check with you local gas shop what a tank of shielding gas goes for. Usually you can lease a large tank, or buy a small tank up front, then just pay tank exchange fees when you run out. Aluminum spool gun is another ball game I've never gotten into.

@OldSoulMillennial I thought I replied to your response here. Anyway, my interest in this MIG welder is to build the belt grinder found in the KZbin titled "How to: Generation 5 Revolution 2x72 build" .

Pardon me my friend; what happened to the 10 year overview? What have you done with this welder in the last ten years? Performance wise; how is it? Do you recommend buying this welder? Yes-no, maybe so...
@OldSoulMillennial Жыл бұрын
To answer your question with a question, what haven't I done with this welder? I've repaired: Dump bodies, snow plows, exhausts. I've built: homemade trailers, welding tables, carts, custom tools, ect. This is a SOLID machine, but understand its limitations. If you are looking for a high duty cycle, factory production machine, this obviously isn't it. However, if you are a diy, home bodied mechanic that wants to make a few bucks making welding small/medium welding repairs, or want to have the ability to build/fix anything of your own, this is a fantastic machine. This machine is well suited for mild still. I have also made some stainless steel welding repairs (with non stainless steel wire). No issues. Can't speak to the aluminum spool gun. This machine blows those cheap Chinese amazon crap welders out of the water. I do not recommend using the 110v Plug for general welding, as you won't have the power for thicker metals. The 110 plug does come in handy for situations where 230 isn't available. .030 Wire is what I recommend. Solid core wire with a 25/75 shielding gas makes for some beautiful looking welds. I likely have a few hundred hours on the machine. Nothing has failed, fried or broken. Absolutely solid machine. All I've replace are tips, and the copper gas cone (once).

MIG (wire feed or GMAW) has limitations , Our (I have one) Hobart 210 is only recommended for welding up to 3/8" mild steel. but I can weld thicker because I know how to do it with gaps and multiple passes. What was impressing about the 210 was the duty cycle. During hours of non-stop welding with the amperage maxed out it never tripped out from overloading. The welding doesn't change, it will just shut down so I don't know what you're talking about there. but for safety critical welds from 1/2" to 1" I still use stick because our MIG can't handle it. Dirty Rust pitted metal is another reason to have stick around because MIG doesn't like dirty. Your review has some misinformation, Flux cored wire is exactly what it states, the flux is INSIDE not on the outside, and coating on the outside is to prevent rust on the wire. Flux cored is twice the price as solid wire and the color of solid wire is because it's micro plated with copper to prevent wire from rusting. There was a few other mistakes but trivial. The Hobart 210mvp is a good welder, and if you want to bump up the duty cycle the iornman 240 is better but a grand more. My stick AC/DC dinosaur and weighs as much has a 80% duty cycle, so when looking for a used stick don't pass up those old obsolete machines because they aren't pretty or light (which means cheap) and some cases get them free.
