18 hands? DANG. To put it into perspective though, wasn't the racehorse Zenyatta 17 hands high? She's a thoroughbred, but she was freakishly tall for her breed. Shire horses are the tallest of any horse breed, so naturally they'd be taller than a thoroughbred. But thoroughbreds only get up to about 15 or 16 hands, so Zenyatta being only one hand smaller than a Shire is crazy.

"Hands" has a conversion, but people don't go around saying that a horse is 5 feet and 4 inches tall, you know?
