Just recently came back to this build after 5 years . I'm excited because I forgot just how good it looked . I'm doing a Pussy Galore II Vic's second jet, I also have the first Galore decal set . Going to do the rendition of the only real Pic floating around of the bird taking on some fuel . I have 2 KC-135s models, one I'll be using as the Tanker . Should be a great diorama when finished .

Great review John, I too tend to lean towards building Sci Fi models. Nice looking build.

Thanks so much Scott! I am grateful for the view and comments, and the kind words! ;) Airplanes had me hooked for many years, but scifi is definitely my main thing now. I love the freedom of imagination that comes with it.

Looks great! All I've left on mine are decals and final assembly. Any suggestions on installing the main landing gear? They look a bit flimsy.
@JonBius2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I did some minor modifications on the main gear so that the gear doors and struts all connected to each other and to the wing to give added strength. I had some of those SAC "metal" landing gear struts, but they were even more flimsy. As long as it is sitting it is OK. Just don't slide it across your desk! :D Thanks for watching and commenting!

Great build Jon. Thank you for sharing. I love military aircraft but I hate space subjects.

Thanks so much! I used to be the same way, but I fell hard into scifi! :D

I have bought this HobbyBoss Thunderchief 1/48 kit. I haven't built a model kit since my teens (in my 50's now) and I have ordered a range of Tamiya paints. Is there a spay gun you can recommend or have these paints been applied by brush? Any help would be great thanks.

I have always enjoyed using Badger airbrushes, particularly the Patriot 105 with either a .3 or .5 nozzle. (That's what I used on this one.) But there are other good brands of course. The key is getting comfortable with the basics - thinning, air pressure, and practice. Having said that, you could certainly brush paint it, though with Tamiya paints it can be a bit more tricky. I'd recommend doing some testing on a piece of scrap plastic (even a primed milk jug should do) and see what you think of brush painting. An airbrush isn't a massive investment, but it's not trivial either. I hope this information helps - thanks so much for watching and commenting!

@@JonBius Thanks for your advice Jon. I only went with Tamiya paints as I wasn't sure what to use and as the Tamiya kits are highly recommended I went with their pants too. Are there any other paint manufacturers you could recommend for this model build?

@@mooronful Tamiya paints are great - I've used them for years. I primarily use them for airbrushing though, as I think that is where they are superior. For brush painting, I tend to opt for Vallejo or Citadel paints, as they are better for that. Still - they too can be airbrushed. As always, your mileage may vary. Perhaps experiment a bit with the options, and see what you feel comfortable with. The most important thing will be experience! How does the old saying go? "If you mess up and learn nothing, it's a mistake. If you mess up and learn something, it's an experience." Be prepared for success, setbacks, and some frustrations - all will give you the experience you need! And most of all - have fun with it. Happy day to you!
