In this Hobby Cheating tutorial, I take you through my process for painting female faces. I talk about the distinction between male and female faces, the color and color placement for female faces and how to create contrast while retaining the warmth of Caucasian skin tone. Hope you enjoy!

Your "Cheating Videos" are always worth a visit, to a greater or lesser degree. However this one is long long overdue. Thank you for giving me the tools to rasie my "female" painting to the next ( or more ) level.

I wouldn't mind seeing "make up" getting its own Hobby Cheating video. At least I couldn't find one. Rare occurrence, that ;) Thanks for all the great videos. Best thing in youtube far as I'm concerned.

I assume you mean doing make up on female faces, that's a really good idea. If you meant actual make-up, there should be plenty of contouring videos on youtube. :)

Great video Vince. For my base/normal, I start with Vallejo Beige Red 804. I believe is the number. I am not sure I could paint a face that small. My eyes aren't what they used to be. She looks great...great video as usual and thanks for sharing...

I like that base as well, I have used that one too. That Beige Red is like a secret weapon I don't think many have used, but I love it. Also great for a highlight color for purple. :)

Hard to spot anything. Did you consider doing a fundme project so people can donate money to you for better lights and a videocam with a makro lense?

I never like asking for money for stuff like that, I feel it's my own responsibility, that being said, I think in the new year, I am going to be able to get a new camera set up, I know detail like this is really tough because this is super small.

Hopefully videos with a higher resolution will be possible, too then. 720p doesn't cut it for these details.

Hey, when you airbrushing the skin tones on, how do you spray? I spray away from the miniature first to avoid any splatters. Do you spray directly onto the miniature?
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 5 жыл бұрын
I mean I test on the back of my hand to make sure I am getting a smooth spray, then I tend to spray directly onto the mini yes.

It's from Kingdom Death from the Warrior of the Sun, it's a great kit because you two wonderful heads in the pack, one with a mask and one without.

It's a lot of faces, I will say though, they do respond really well if you put the time in. ;)

I really love your videos, but it's hard to see what you'd like to show us. Please somehow improve the resolution, buy a new cam! I'm sure a lot of people here would donate for the good cause! :)

Yep, this was the straw that broke my own back, this was just as good as I could get it and it drove me crazy. I am already talking to some folks about cameras, I don't like asking for money, but I think the new year should bring some new tech.

I think opening a patreon page is not asking for money. It's all about supporting others work if I wanted to. I love your technics, your approach of different topics and your ars poetic also. I learned the most of my knowledge of painting from your videos. :) I guess there are others who would be thankful also. ;)

Hobby Cheating is always there with the answers I need! 2 questions: " 1) What size brush are you using? is that a 0? 2) At what point, if at all, do you start worrying that the many layers of back and forth start to erase the sculpting work, as if you had thick coats on there?
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 5 жыл бұрын
It's probably a 0, I usually work with 0 or 1. Honestly, it's never a concern. These paint layers are so thin, I am sure there are situations where I have done dozens of them. When you work thin, you could do a hundred layers and not really obscure anything.

Good tutorial! I'd like to ask two questions: are you italian or have italian origins? second (more on topic) which colors would you use on a female mini to make her look like "glacial"?
@VinceVenturella
@VinceVenturella 6 жыл бұрын
1) Yep, with a name like Venturella you have to be. ;) 2) So moving things into the cold spectrum is much the same color palette but we need to add some light touches of blue. For the white, instead of a warm white like White Sands, I would use a cold white (something grey-white) and add a little (LITTLE) amount of blue into it as well as some very slight blue glazes and wheel back on the warm red some. I would also add a little deep blue to the shadows to give them a more purple, cold feeling. This is all very slight color shifts, we aren't mixing any more than a touch of these things in but the effect is pronounced.
