Thanks Vince! I really like seeing the Molotow thing incorporated into your metal-painting flow. Gives me ideas abotu that knight-in-armor tin can I have to paint. On this specific mini, and on heavily metallic minis, I find it hard to do something I try to do with others: bring the viewer's attention on the face and especially eyes. Would you have any "extra tips" from what you have done here to do so? (I'm not talking about the fluorescent part, which is obviously there and as you said is next week's topic.) But maybe for instance would you change colors, going blue even if it maybe isn't cannon for a Necron to have blue eyes? Would you re-circle the eyes with black or something? Would you paint shiny metallic pupils and then paint the eye colors over? Just looking for eye-related tricks. (wink wink :-)

So yes, I think the key is one, something like having the fluroescent eyes, 2) having that are have the most shine and 3) picking out with glazes and shadow the strongest to really push the contrast as you said.

Thanks for another great tutorial Vince, it allowed someone at the beginning of their hobby journey like myself to get a whole bunch of Necron warriors looking great in a timely fashion. What extra steps would you add to paint the Necron elite infantry and characters models? In the GW art these models often have a combination of multiple metals and coloured armour plates. Trayzn for example has gold jewellery plus a bright blue coloured external ribcage. For any metals other than steel would it be best to go with the GSW Pigment method you showed for the brass in HC 347 Perturabo? For any coloured armour plates would it be best to leverage the underlying TMM zenithal? If so for the bright coloured armour sections would it be best to just brush these on with multiple layers of thinned down Tamiya clear acrylics similar to the concept shown (albeit minus the airbrush application) on HC 346 Alpha Legion?
@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын
Lots of questions there. :) - So yes, I would pick out those additional details with alternating color metals, slight glow on some items, etc. Yes, that gold is what I would use. If you can utilize that underlying zenithal, it makes it much easier yes. Yep, the Alpha legion style is what I would do.

Did you varnish before the oil wash? Or is the metallic paint used here resistant to mineral spirits somehow?
@VinceVenturella4 жыл бұрын
In this case I did not. I will often gloss varnish for matte paints to get the wash flowing, but with metals, I don't varnish. White Spirits don't actually direct react with acrylic paint, what usually happens is that you get the paint that wet and then push your brush around, it will pull up paint, but as long as you have a soft touch, you won't hurt anything.

Hey Vince, been watching your videos for at least the last year i think ive watch almost all your hobby cheating videos, and ive wanted to try and push into wet blending, and ive watched your video on it, but was having problems in that when i tried to blend, the paint kinda just felt like it was over thinned,(which is entirely possible as im still struggling with constancy), and instead of blending it kinda just lifts off or doesnt blend. but i noticed another person in the comments was also having problems using vallejo which is what im using. I remember he asked if you could do another wet blending video but with vallejo, and i was wondering if you were to be able to do that, or if you might know what the problem might be. Obviously there is some amount of user error as i am still new to trying to blend. I also tried to do loaded brush blending as well but had a very similar result. Again it verywell might just be my problems with consistency, cause i am incapable of judging consistency, so when people tell me oh just go for skim milk it means nothing to me, which is unfortunate given that, there is no exact science for it which is what owuld help me immensely. Thanks in advanced, or would you suggest starting to collect scale 75 colors, cause ive been considering it for awhile now especially after watching your video on like 9 different paint brands 75s ultra matt finish is appealing to me.
@VinceVenturella4 жыл бұрын
Well, one of the keys is don't use the air paints, the thinness of them makes them difficult to wet blend. One of the tricks to the wet blend is that you need to use more or less straight paint from the pot, but then push it around and smooth it out, and then when wet, combine it with similar thickness paint. As to Scale 75, I certainly love them and I would recommend you try a small set and see how they fit you, they are still a regular part of my rotation.

Nadiral < nadir? I'm not sure “nadal” is a word (or rather, it's not one I'd heard before the last few weeks). Technical question, though: why is the shiny zenithal applied before the dark nadiral, rather than the other way around? My argument for the other order would be that light casts beams, but darkness is just the absence of light-so in a fight between darkness and light, in physics terms, the light wins. But, crucially, that's a physics argument, not a painting argument-painting has its reasons, too-and I've seen a number of good painters do it in this order recently-in fact, I think nadiral over zenithal is gaining in popularity. I've been enjoying the Molotow (it's pronunciation week! They're German, so I bet that ‘w’ is pronounced like an English ‘v’, making it a much more familiar word-someone please tell if I'm wrong) chrome (I've been using one of the markers), and it's utterly lovely except for having (unless I'm imagining this) a slightly weird colour that looks just not *quite* right with other metals. (Do I need to use more parentheses?) And-any gotchas using it with a brush? I gather it's alcohol-based?
@VinceVenturella4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have no idea what the right word is. :) - As to the light, in the end, I do it because of the paint reasons, I want the shadow to be able to dominate, for me, the reason I am painting the last color is always because I want that to be the thing that covers last basically, yes, it's artist license. :) As to Molotow, you need some isopropyl alcohol to clean the brush as it is alcohol.

The camera is very high quality, it's more my use of it probably. I am surprised this aurdio didn't work for you, I separately narrated and used a nice mic. As to the varnish, someone did ask, I didn't varnish after the oils, in general, as long as the oils (especially a thin wash like this) is dry, there is no issue with acrylics over top. That being said, when it comes to doing a whole miniature in oils (as I did with the Crimson Fist), I will generally varnish, but that's just because I varnish many times throughout the process as save points. Hope that all helps.
