That was a touch and stay. I've managed quite a few of those. This looks like a really good flier.

Just a little clarification: flaps differ from airbrakes. flaps are designed to generate lift, airbrakes generate drag. If you were to use airbrakes when flaps were required, the plane would likely stall which is actually the opposite of what you want.

You guys are killing me. I am still waiting for better weather to get either an XK X300 or the Xiro Explorer and now you show me a beginner plane. The sooner I get an apartment with enough room for these things the better...
@scottfirman6 жыл бұрын
I am jealous you do know that right? . I have noticed the lack of lift you generally get in warmer temps so you need more throttle, less gliding. Flaps do help beginners as long as they realize the plane will rise up much faster on takeoff. Great job Abby, you are a pro now. lol. Pushers are the easiest planes to fly and yes, you have motor brake on.. I find that a non free wheeling prop adds drag too. Stay out of that Valley of Death! Lol. Glad you could get out and fly...or crash...lol.... I have 6 new planes to fly come spring.

My Bix3 lands without flaps marvelously, even with FPV equipment and big battery on board. I glued them with icecream sticks. So, if you want, play with them, but it isn't necessary on this plane.

Nice video - love the air-to-air shots - you haven't done any of that for quite a while. Talking about flaps, back in the 70s I was taking flying lessons in a Cessna 150. To demonstrate the power of the flaps for low speed/high lift, the instructor landed the plane *across* the runway, without ever touching the grass on either side!

You could connect the flaps to the ailerons using heavy duty packing tape, thus giving you large ailerons! I've seen Andrew Newton do this. However for a beginner that may not be the best because it makes the plane very sensitive to aileron inputs.

Christopher Starzyk was going to suggest Andrew's method as well.👍🏻

Try using a little packing tape to secure the flaps. It should be lighter than the hot glue. Just a suggestion. Enjoying the videos as always!
@kdobson836 жыл бұрын
Jason Thomas and considerably easier to remove if you wanted to install flaps in the future... Lol With hot glue you'd have to use denatured alcohol and hope you don't damage the foam.

Nice to see a fixed wing video, seems like ages since your last one. Just a quick hint Nate, when doing rolls on a fixed wing, try adding a little opposite rudder at the same time as your aeleron input, it will keep the nose level. Hope we can get more fixed wing flights in the future.

On the Bix2 v2 (the new one), the flap still has one small piece of foam the flap section closer to the fuselage, and the other side is of course in the open w the gap as the B3. It would have been enough just a line of hot glue in the inner gap, not underneath. I do all kinds of maneuvers on the B2v2 and still that small tab of foam is still there. If want to play it safe, just a few drop, not the whole line. Its going to be a pain to remove if later decide to fly w flaps. Although they are not really needed, and the key to pusher glider planes is the lighter the better.
@TheRcSaylors6 жыл бұрын
You are right about the glue. We figured we'd probably never add flaps to this. It's just going to be Abby's summer plane to fly and "bash" around. Still a very helpful tip though, thank you!

Hi. Thanks for this video. I still flight my BIX3 almost all weekend and publish my videos about what a I learn with him and all can learn too. It's a great RC Airplane to learn, I say that in all my videos. The fact of BIX3 have landing gear is advantage in my opinion to learn to do great landings. And have Flaps... Be welcome and again, thanks very much for this review, best regards!

Tony Sansom is correct. By disabling the flaps, you threw away a set of controls you could wind up wishing you had someday. Yes, I'm a pilot, both R/C and real airplanes. If I'd tried to land my F-104 without flaps, I'd have needed 3 miles of runway. Even in the Air Force, runways that long are rare.

Does this make sense? You can use throttle as elevator, more THR = ascend, less THR = descend You can use elevator as throttle, more up ELE = slow down, down ELE = speed up. Think of this as you land.

Nice video. I have a question I hope you can shead light on: I have flown several Bixler 3 planes and have a kit in my hanger waiting for assembly, but I have noticed and other have commented on the Bix3 tendancy to tip stall when turning at low speeds. Do you have any suggestions for combatting this problem? Mods to improve performance? Thanks. - Jim
