Hey Roberta, Love your videos. I just picked up this machine and would love to see more. Have a great day!

I love the singer type machines with their lace carriages but will also use the brother machines for lace. But with the Knit King 710, I can fool around with any 8 stitch patterns and hopefully get the card for the brother or even singer machines. But to each their own. Berda

Roberta, you are a genius. This is just my questions on those look like needles jammed, and you answer my question, thanks.

So let me get this straight? In my video, it looks like the needles are jamming but in fact they were not? I have had the studio type lace carriage sort of jam, but come to find out, the yarn wasn't really good for lace knitting, so we can still have problems with this carriage. Someone else had issues with her LC2 but it was from not being used but after a few times, she got it to knit like a hot knife going through butter.

Roberta, Thank you for this video. It cleared up what or how to do the Fashion lace. I generally can follow the manual on these machines but this one stumped me. :)

Glad it helped you, I was in that same boat when I had the SK360 with the LC2 but eventually got it figured out. And believe me, your not alone when it comes to not understanding the manuals, I heard that maybe they were not translated well and it could very well be. One reason I rarely look at the manual for any of the machines unless of course I am not getting what I believe I am doing is correct but find out that I did something wrong but we live and learn.

Thank you for the informative video! I have a Studio Mod 700 with the LC2 and it keeps knitting only stockinette even though i have the levers on triangle. It is picking the needles but not actually moving the stitch over. Any idea why that might be?
@RobertaRoseMeads

It could be the LC may need a good cleaning or lubricating, hard to say without seeing it in person.

Thanks for this video. I am new to machine knitting and just learning. I find your videos very helpfull. I have a question though. Is it possible to knit just a section of your work in lace? For example; what if you are knitting a top, but you just want a lace pannel going vertically, through the centre, with stokinette on right and left. Is there a way to do that, or must you knit three seperate pannels, and join them later?

Yes you can! Some machines are set that way, the Singer type machines you put these little things on the back side of the bed, on the brother type machines, there are long cams that also go on the back side of the bed for only that area to be lace, even for Fair Isle and Slip Stitch. For machines that do not have that capability, you can hand tool what you need.

Hey Roberta, I have an old SK326 machine, do you know if the LC2 will work on it? Thanks for the great video!
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it will, but you need to get the newer needles that will work with the LC2, it has a little bite out of the top so they can bend easy. Actually the machine I am using is the SK326, hard to see but the carriage shows me what machine I had.

I prefer the Singer Lace Carriage over the Brother Lace carriages but both will give you the same output, just that with the brother, you will move the L-carriage as many times as needed, then knit 2 rows with the K-carriage. Most of the Singer Lace carriage patterns will do both transfer and knit the sts but not all of them.

hello Roberta, I'll like to find out if I can make some of the patterns I see here on my knitting machines too. I have a silver SK328, and a brother machine. I don't mind speaking with you privately please
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 7 жыл бұрын
For the SK328, you will need to make sure your needles will be capable of a lace carriage but then you will need the LC2 or LC360. For your brother machine, you should have had a lace carriage, well the bulky machines never had the lace carriage, most those special accessories are only for the standard beds. Berda

WOW! What did you do to make the LC move that easily? I'm so afraid of dropping stitches on my 700.
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 7 жыл бұрын
For some strange reason, my LC moves much easier than the K carriage on that machine. I finally got that area straightened out so I should get out my SK700 again soon. I plan on making lace sweaters for my 2 grandnieces and want to use this machine for it, just some plain lace that will work up fast. But tell me what happens to your lace carriage again. Berda

Hi Roberta, what tension do you recommend for 2/16 cone yarn on the LC2, I am having trouble with the yarn breaking during the process and it's dropping stitches all around. Thanks so much for your videos!
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 9 жыл бұрын
+Yarn Bombing Costa Rica What tension are you using? When I get yarn that breaks on me, most times the yarn is just too old and/or not good for the machine, I tend to take those and use more for hand knitting where it won't break. I am trying to think of what yarn I did use when using the LC2, I believe it was more of a 3 ply, like 3/15, so what your using is about the same size but in 2 ply. I know of someone that kept dropping stitches and she needed more weight on the fabric. I have also dropped stitches with too much weight on the fabric. So check your weights and see if you have too little or too much when working with your LC2. Hope this helps, Berda

Hey Roberta, great video as usual...when doing increases or decreases you just have to move the edge pins accordingly? I'm interested in making some shawls...crescent and triangular....with a lace edge added to the outer edges....and advice on making this dream of mine a reality? I don't have a manual for my lace carriage....could you sell me a copy please? Thanks Char

You can email me at hobbyknitter @ gmail dot come or fill in my Contact page www.hobbyknitter.com/files/contact.html I know there were a few lace carriages and it sounds like you may have the wrong one. Again I am not sure but do want to try and help you get this figured out. Berda

I'm a newbie to machine knitting and loving what I am learning... I have just tried the plain lace and once I found out to hang the work over the ribber and not between, I was well away with my test pieces.... I have a Knitmaster 700 and wanted to know, are there any other 'plain' punch cards besides the ones you get with the machine (nos.1-8)?
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 7 жыл бұрын
Hello Daphne, glad to meet another new machine knitter. I love the lace carriage for the singer/studio type machines but brother also has their way of doing lace. Unfortunately the brother cards are more the Fashion Lace but be careful as some of them are also Fine Lace. Now you may find some at machineknittingetc.com/ type 'lace' in the top right box and see what they have, there may be some there but I had not looked at them myself. If they say studio, singer, silver reed, then you should be good to go, but if they say any other machine, you will have to know which ones will work in that lace carriage and how, plain or fashion lace. Hope that helps you. Berda

thanks for the videos! you have taught me so much. I currently have a bond (which i'm not in love with but i like machine knitting) how many machines have you had and which ones do you prefer. I think I want to upgrade to a punch card machine but i'm not sure which one - do you know of any place for reviews of different machines?
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 10 жыл бұрын
Your welcome, glad that you get to watch my videos, I also have a Bond, haven't used it in a while, but my all time favorite is my Singer Bulky, well the carriage has Studio on it but it is the same machine. But I also like the LK150 or the SK860 mid-gauge machine as well, then the standards come last but only that with vision not so good as some 10+ years back, those tiny stitches are sometimes hard to see, but if I concentrate, I can get to make up things on them as well. I believe I may have about a dozen machines now but had others that I had for a while and then sold them to get another one, 3 of them at this point are destined for a grandniece as she is starting to crochet, so hopefully she will take over when my time has come to push that carriage for the last time. But that won't be for a long time still. I am not sure of anyplace that has reviews of the different machines, most of them are no longer being made brand new anymore but parts can be purchased for the most part from around the world. I would suggest to watch others videos on their machines, maybe you can see the difference and what one you may prefer. The first thing is to know what type of yarn you want to use, then the next is to find the machines that can use that yarn. Most people do find the bulky machines better as you can get yarn at most local stores and not have to buy specialty yarns for the standard machines. Hope this helps.

Roberta Rose Kelley thanks a bunch - I was actually leaning towards the singers bulk or a studio (which i believe are the same thing). will they take baby yarn (the kind you buy from store) for baby blankets? i'm going check out a ton more of your videos. thanks a bunch
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Singer, Studio, Silver Reed, Knitmaster as well as a Toyota and Elna bulky are all pretty much the same machine, different colors but all set up the same. Silver Reed is the one that started them and the others had something to make and sell them under their name. Now I can use the baby yarn when I have my ribber on more than just the knitter only but if you want a lacy effect, that would work out. Or you can use 2 thicknesses of baby yarn. I tend to use my mid-gauge machines (SK860, LK150, LK140 and KX350) more for the baby yarns, the last 3 do not have ribbers and the SR860 is about as hard to find as the SK860 (K for knitter, R for ribber). I do find that some of the newer yarns that are softer will work out good on the lower end of the TD on the bulky machines, they are considered more of a light worsted weight but I did make a baby blanket on my SK155 with the #1 card and set the cam to Tuck. goo.gl/9Lk3PH

sewobsessedmama I am glad that I could help you, some people are Singer type machines where others will point out the Brother type machines, I think both of them are great machines but I do prefer the Singer ones myself. But I do have the brother standard machine that I was able to get out not long ago and even got the ribber out with her, I had fun working on her, but it was more the yarn changer that was fun. I do have a yarn changer for my studio standard machine and someday will get that accessory out again as well. I have so many things I want to make or show others how to do something, and in time I will get to them.

would this be possible on the knitmaster 4500?
@RobertaRoseMeads
@RobertaRoseMeads 7 жыл бұрын
Well the 4500 doesn't have a lace carriage but you can hand tool lace on it. A little more work with that machine but it may be worth it in the end. If I remember correctly, it would be very similar to the White Magic Knitter, but I didn't show how to do lace on that machine. I will get my 4500 out and try to work on her more. Keep watching for my new videos as I can get them online. Berda
