Sadly I wish it was as simple as advising you to avoid this particular brand name, however, these locks are mass produced in China with assorted brand names on them. My best advice would be to avoid purchasing 'cheap' locks, purchase from big brands only (excluding MasterLock) If you ever have any doubts about a security product, feel free to email me for advice (my email address can be found in the description of every video.

Thanks Ethan. Was the case also plastic? Moral of the tale: Never buy a lock from a market or from a bargain store. It will only be a lock-shaped object.

RWBHere Very true, you get exactly what you pay for! In regards to the case, yes, I actually slipped back the plastic cover after the video and discovered there were only metal lamination plates at the top and bottom, the middle of the lock (conveniently hidden behind the weatherproof cover) was fully plastic, and even had a crack down the side of it.

Great job picking!! That is crazy!! A plastic core. Poor newbie couldn’t get it picked. Well, not very many people could. I hope he gets a better lock to learn on. I have done the same thing though. Great advice for anyone especially someone just entering locksports. Happy pickings!!

Hi yeah it was my lock. I’d practised on the transparent locks and picked a cable bike lock and thought I’d practise on this. - couldn’t do a thing with it. So I asked hobby picker if he’d take a look as it was awful quality and he graciously did. The video is quite astounding! The lock I had, wouldn’t open with its own key for ten minutes!

Brian Marshall at least you know it wasn’t you or your picking. Are you in the states?
@TheGreatest19745 жыл бұрын
No I’m in the Scottish Borders. Yeah I thought I must be an awful lock picker if I couldn’t pick such a bad lock. Ironically I’ll probably have better luck picking a better lock! Cheers, Brian.

Hi it’s brian! Thankyou so much for the ‘expose’ of this lock. I’m actually so happy it wasn’t my fault I couldn’t pick the damn thing? It wouldn’t even open with its OWN key for the first ten minutes. I hope you found it a worthwhile lock to film, if just to show how shockingly bad cheap locks are getting?! Thanks mate I’ll be more confident of picking a better lock next time, at least I’ll get some feedback from pins etc! Ta for the informative video. It’s an Abus from now on!

Thanks for bringing it to my attention Brian, it's really been an eye opening experience for me, as you can tell from the video, it had me speechless, it's something you don't normally expect to find in a product that should be keeping your stuff secure! I'm very glad of this opportunity to make it public, it's also been shared on Facebook.

Hobby Picker Hi, I’m really pleased that you made an excellent video of it, and let’s hope it goes far on Facebook too. I checked my lock when I watched your vid last night and mine absolutely refuses to lock unless it’s in the shackle hole? Yours locked outside the hole! What a farce of any kind of quality! Cheers anyway, now I know why some ‘normal’ looking padlocks seem so expensive. It’s cos they are likely good quality!

I do apologise for the slightly degraded video quality, I exported the video at a lower resolution than usual.

Awesome video Ethan my friend I walk past these in quality Save all the time absolute junk knew it had a plastic core do you know why it's plastic not just because it's cheap because then they claim it's water-resistant because it won't corrode😂😊🇬🇧👍😎

Bypass, you can bypass it with a slim hook.
@HobbyPicker5 жыл бұрын
I never tried that, but even if that did work then it would be one of the least of the problems this lock has!! Thanks for watching!
@tarehjernetarehjerne40825 жыл бұрын
By using something like a broken key extractor you can pass through the hole at the back and grab the locking lug. Takes around 5 sec, completely inexcusable. Thanks for spending your money on this so we dont have to

Tarehjerne Tarehjerne You are quite right, that would be another weakness in this lock! I really hope this video gets out there so people see that you get what you pay for.
