I just got one of these locks today. I still can't pick it. The core goes into a deep false set. Yes, the shackle is sprink loaded and the lock is key retaining. I just took the shackle spring out on my lock to make it normal.

I'm working with a training lock with four non-security pins and can't rake it to save my fucking life. I can sit here and scrub the pins for an hour and .... nothing. Suggestions?
@HobbyPicker Жыл бұрын
Try rocking the pick as you do it, it can depend on the key bitting, if there are a lot of low and high cuts it can make raking more difficult.

I was able to unlock mine 1/2 way through viewing this video . I put pressure on the locks by pulling them apart AND angling upwards at the same time (as though i was trying to snap it with my hands). I did the far left dial first and then with in 3-4 mins had unlocked it left to right. have now reset the combo and recorded in my password file :) . Pretty happy with that. thanks for the video

Aw thank you very much for your kind words, it is super encouraging to hear and it does inspire me to produce more content. Sadly I ran out of time for making videos regularly because of ever increasing responsibilities, in fact nowadays I rarely get a chance to pick locks at all which is frustrating. Also once you get out of the habit of making videos, it’s very hard to start again. My hope is to continue in the future, I have no shortage of ideas, that’s for sure! You never know, with the upcoming winter season and holidays I might find some spare time to do what I really enjoy! In the mean time you are more than welcome to comment or email me with any questions you might have, my email address is in the description of every video. Happy picking, keep up the good work! 😁 Ethan.

Do most locks unlock clockwise?
@HobbyPicker2 жыл бұрын
If it’s a padlock, yes, but if the lock is mounted in a door it depends what ‘handing’ the door is. If the door is mounted with the lock on the right, it’ll usually unlock counter-clockwise, if the door is mounted with the lock on the left, the lock will typically unlock clockwise. Of course there are exceptions to this rule depending on each brand of lock and the mechanism inside, but this tends to be the norm. Hope this helps!

10 out of 10 what material did you use .
@HobbyPicker2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I actually use an Am-Tech drain cleaner, it’s basically just a 15ft roll of spring steel with a coiled brush on the end, it’s very inexpensive (around 3 or 4 pounds in the UK), I’m sure other companies make it too but it’s really good material, very durable and just the right size for pick profiles. I’ve actually started making almost all of my picks out of it, and today my most used picks are ones that I’ve made myself. They don’t look too beautiful but they do work a treat! Just takes an afternoon with a file and some sandpaper (maybe a Dremel to remove material faster and save time).

@HobbyPicker2 жыл бұрын
@@jpaulgetty8998 Well done! I’m very impressed that you managed to pick your first lock with a tool you made yourself! Usually I advise people to buy picks when they are learning so they understand what profiles work best, this helps when it comes to making them, but you’ve obviously got it worked out! Windscreen wipers are a common material, though I find the ones we get in the UK are the wrong size, and work much better as tension wrenches. Happy picking!

Hallo, when i find the first binding pin it's feel so hard. Than i push him down and the lock wrench little bit. And than i can't finding the next binding pin because the pins feeling soft and not more hard. I don't understand this.
@HobbyPicker2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, This is a sure sign that you are over-lifting the binding pin, this is when you push the pin up too far. If you are very careful you can gently ease the tension and drop the pin back down to the shear line. I hope this helps.

You have more patience than I do. I threw my lock away, I could not figure out the combination. Guess I don't make a good locksmith.
@HobbyPicker2 жыл бұрын
It’s true that I could have opened it destructively and been done with it, but what’s the fun in that? I love a puzzle and nobody likes to be defeated, but being defeated AND being a bad loser is a whole lot worse! I’d rather just practise and get in shape for the rematch!! Thanks for stopping by, there are sometimes those few that just stump you no matter what unfortunately, and even the locksmiths have them... they generally result in drill bits being used.
