Hobbywing Max4 Castle 2028 800kv 12S -Losi dbxl-e

Welcome to Steel City RC channel. This is a quick first test of the new motor and esc I installed over the weekend. I am using a Hobbywing Max4 and Castle 2028 800kv in sensored mode. I can't be more pleased with this buggy. I definitely like this max4 better than the Flier ESC I used for nearly two years. Hope to get this buggy out again soon. stay tuned.

1st Man G! What an fn powerhouse! Finally what you were wanting out of your dbxl! Takes a shit ton of money along with the trial and error in our hobby sometimes! So nice when you get it where you want it though. Very satisfying. Great work there brother… that thing ain’t messin!

you made me sooo happy that i bought my losi dbxl-e 2.0 & what's so funny i bought a max 4 to pair it with my castle 800kv motor thinking it would NOT work on 12s so i bought a hobby wing 560kv motor to pair it up perfectly but now i found out i did not have to do that. back up motor for my castle 800kv. i'm waiting on parts from vitavon to rebuild my new losi dbxl-e 2.0. be safe & you sounded exactly like a extremely happy teenager getting his first nut. ;-}~

Awesomeness! Maaan the way Hobbywing was listing specs etc. They made it sound like their new motor is the only one to be paired with rhe max4. Great marketing strategy. That motor is unnecessary in a dbxl IMO. So you will love the HW Castle combo. Yea I was a bit excited lol. First nut 🙄🤣😂

Thank you so much Sir! I bought this buggy five or six years ago when it first came out. I fell in love instantly. I beefed it up as best possible at the time. It still handles 12S no problem. I used to jump this buggy a lot and noticed lots of chassis flex. So I bought some 13mm 7075 aluminum round bar and made that center tower to tower brace. No more flex. Ahahahahaha I totally agree. The Max4 will blow the doors off the previous Flier ESC I had in here using 12S. This Max4 is beyond impressive. That was right out of the box. I calibrated it and started filming. Such an animal. A true Braapless Beast. Thanks for stopping by 👊 🤘

How does the max 4 compare to the max 5 g2 in your experience? Your video convinced me towards the max 4 from a max 5 I just got

I don't have any experience with the g2 max5. I would think 12S is 12S. The max4 pushes more amps though. I would try it to see what you think. Then sell it if you aren't happy with it. Appreciate you stopping by 👊 🤘

What is up man! The sensor wire is included with the Max4 ESC. Comes in a baggie with a few other wires too. Seems to work well. I had to go the Castle motor route. The HW sensored motor wasn't out yet. Appreciate you stopping by 👊 🤘

I'm running the dbxle 2.0 with the 700kv leopard + MAX 4 and mine doesn't come close to pulling a wheelie on 12S. Is the castle motor that much better?

@@SteelCityRC I was running 17t stock spur but geared down to 14 cuz the motor was getting too hot.

@@TonyStark-pi3vc 14 should be plenty anyways. Gotta figure from 8S to 12S will give the motor more voltage and hense RPM which a 14T should be good. 17T worked well 8S for me and I decided to just keep it. Doing fine. Do you have fans on your motor?

When the max 4 and the motor 1st came out, I said to myself damn that's expensive. But, I just dropped over $200 just in fans so, I guess I can't really say anything about the price for the max 4 and motor.

Ahahahaha right! This hobby is not cheap by any means. I had a similar feeling about the price till I thought about how much a MGM ESC costs and it isn't waterproof. Wow that is expensive for fans. I use two Yeah Racing signal10 fans 40x40x12 for the motor on a mount I made. Cost per fan is $15. Really appreciate you stopping by to check out my buggy!!

@@SteelCityRC The fans (server fans) for the motor I got from amazon, they have the aluminum body and were about $35 a piece, then I just ordered a fan from famwercs for the xlx2, it includes the mount, 3s connection, color of my choice and whatever else it comes with and that was a lot pricey ($148). All fans are 40 x40 x 20 mm. So once again, I can't really complain about price for the max 4.

@@tktk-om8cg HW has specs to accommodate what they offer. Their 800kv isn't 12S rated so they recommend one of their motors that is capable. Basically they are trying to keep all the sales in HW house rather than stating a 800kv will work too beings they don't have one.

Hello. I didn't program it with the set button. I drove it out of the box. Then recently I used a program box. Now got the OTA programer to use an app on my phone. You are going to love that ESC. Appreciate you stopping by 👊 🤘

That I am unsure of. The Max8 is 6S max. Not sure what your motor is rated at. If you use the Max8 with your motor do not overpower the motor. Find out it's max voltage and use that to power the Max8

What is up man! Everything has held up great. I still have V1 CV axles and center shafts. The diffs are all aluminum including the spider cups. The motor and ESC paired nicely too. No issues. Been so much more fun than the Flier 16S ESC I had prior. The Max4 is an animal! Appreciate you stopping by 👊 🤘

What is up man. It is very smooth even though I mixed HW and Castle. I do have a couple sensored Castle systems and this setup seems equally smooth. Really digging this ESC so far. Much better than the Flier ESC I had prior. Appreciate you stopping by 👊 🤘

Thanks! I am using a Castle 2028 800kv sensored motor with the Hobbywing Max4 ESC. The Max4 comes with a few sensor wires in the box. One of them fit the Castle motor. Appreciate you checking out my buggy!

Thanks! Run times are hard to equate between 12S and 8S. I guess if I used the same mah in each it would be worthy of testing. Unfortunately 12S I am using new 6S lipos 8000mah and 8S I had two 7400mah

Weight wise there will be difference, maybe it can be neglected or compensated somehow, but besides that if you run them both for let’s say ten minutes sharp and put them back on the charger you can see how many mah you have used. If you divide the 12S by 8S used capacity you have your answer i’d guess....? Crazy setup by the way! It rocks!! 👊🏼
