You are ringing up fond memories. I took some friends and a Hobie16 to South Padre Island one summer in the late 1960s. Good times. I overslept one morning, sleeping on the trampoline with my feet hanging over the side - sunburned the bottoms of my feet. Still able to catch waves, even surfed the Hobie from a wave over a mile offshore all the way to the sand. When you get enough wind, two standing out on the side and flying the hull is a major rush. (hint, move back toward the rudders to keep the down side hull pointing up so you avoid a pitchpole plunge.) Good vlog, keep it up.

Yeah, that was pretty amazing that Zoe just casually called from her wrist to get the guy to lift the bridge - while she was out on the trapeze! Couldn't have done that a few years ago. I caught the sailing bug on a Hobie 16 my Dad bought for us kids to use at the beach house, so much fun. My Mom thought it would be safer than the Sunfish far out of her sight in the Gulf of Mexico. (Ssh! We won't tell her how many times I tumped that thing over - with my dog aboard!)

I would suggest sleeping pads. The trapeze is just like a hammock and having no insulation under you is worse than sleeping on the ground. A sleeping bag is useless as you compress all of the fill/insulation. You either need a pad or suspend a blanket under the trapeze so you aren't compressing it. Ie an under quilt. You insulation comes from the dead air insinuation and not necessarily the material itself.

Did something similar 30 years ago on a Flying Scott on the Chesapeake. Hit a squall, 50 kts white-out conditions for 30 minutes. Dropped anchor and dragged sails down and back aboard. Within 5 minutes the waves were breaking over the bow and rolling into the cockpit. Sat on the bilge bailing with a bucket. Barely missed being run over by two powerboats also caught out. After it passed I could see we dragged 1/2 mile and my hands were bleeding pulling the anchor up. It was still fun

I got caught in about a 45 knot squall on the Currituck sound on the Outer Banks once in a rental Flying Scot. Waves hitting me in the face as I was at the back of the boat but everytime that bow jumped up in the air and screamed for more! That is what convinced me to buy a Flying Scot Hull # 82! ⛵🐬

Hello Sam and your lady friend that boat looks pretty fast on the marketplace someplace here in California somebody bought a storage property and there was two or three hobby cats on it and the ad said that they are free and they want them off the property they were there when they bought the property but that's here in California someplace a town I never heard of but it would be kind of far coming here to get them on a flatbed anyway if you did want them chances are they might still have them but if I had a way to get them and put them to you so I would get all two or three of them and your sail on your hubby cat the color goes good with your hobby cat. Anyway stay safe both of you and healthy God bless you always enjoy watching your videos Sam you come up with something different every time.

I have camped with my Hobie 16 a number of times in the 30,000 Island area of Georgian Bay. The real challenge is that the Hobie doesn't have a lot of flotation to begin with, and loading up the trampoline makes jib handling quite challenging. To free up some of the trampoline , I made up a lightweight wooden skid that allows me to lash on items between the hulls ahead of the mast. You do need to make sure these are lightweight items to avoid pitchpolling. I have managed to go to remote locations for a week and camp with a high degree of comfort (folding table and chairs, tent, bug shelter etc.).

Sam, What is the date of your sailing? I think I missed some of your videos. It looks like you are in the Florida area. You look like you are having an awesome time. I only one time in the South China Sea when on R & R from Vietnam in 1968. It was a small boat called a Sun Fish, which we managed to put the sail in the water. But it was fun. After watching your video I may try the Hobie Cat. Do you think a retired 75 year old man would be able to sail a Hobie? Have fun. 🤗
