I followed this video for the mount and worked great I added 2 stabilizers with ubolts and 2 small aluminum strips on both sides mounted to the H rails for extra strength. Thanks for the help , is a way better alternative for those of us who can’t afford a torqueto.

Great video, when you say the Watersnake broke, what exactly happened. I was thinking about purchasing one.

It just stopped working. Nothing turned on. Maybe I got a dud. I'm not sure if it got wet or what. It's super lightweight and small if that's what you need otherwise I'd look for something better.

What balance issues did u have… I had my first sail yesterday and instead of wood I used aluminium square tubing then added a small transom . My battery was a small 6x6 inch 24Ah (slightly lighter than the 65lb Thust Motor. Worked fairly ok with only a slight im-balance( small mod still required to add a fraction more weight to battery side

Since it's side mounted and not completely in the rear, are you able to adjust it to in fact travel in a straight line? Any issues with steering? I want to do this with mine. Thanks.

I have a question , I just watched your first attempt video , you had it mounted using the scupper holes ,, on this one you went with the rod holders, which one was better ?, I just bought the motor so now I have to make the mount , wondering which way to go ?

I like using the rod holders. It feels more secure.

how many hours were you able to use the 50ah battery?

How long does the charge last with 12v 50ah? Run time

That's a good question. I haven't really tracked how long I've used it since I turn it off once I get to my spot. It hasn't died on me yet.

Looks like a great setup, i like teh simplicity. What battery were you using for your new Minn Kota? Do you feel like the plank and ovc are pretty stable and secure? Ive heard of horror stories of motors falling off of kayaks when side mounted lol

Thank you! I'm using the Ampere Time 12V 50Ah Lithium LiFePO4 Battery

I definitely think its stable and secure. With that said, I do have the motor tethered.

I’ll give you more simplicity.. I took a milk crate, attached a large piece of wood to the crate (bolts) and put the crate in the back of the kayak. The crate is weighed down by the weight of the wood and battery and some fishing supplies. Then put the trolling motor on the piece of wood. This way, there is no stress on the kayak rod holders (the holders crack from the stress apparently) and it’s easy to unload.. simply take off the motor and lift out the crate. I have had this set up for 3 years and there is no problem, no damaging of the kayak and no special tools or things to do.

I just built this with 1 1/4 inch pvc and 1 3/4 inch U bolts. I wrapped the bottom of each piece with some duct tape until it was a snug fit. Seemed easier. Works great. Thanks for the video!
