Very smart design. As someone shopping for a kayak, knowing I'll want a motor on it, this frees up my choices immensely. I haven't been too excited about the crossbeam designs I've see, and manufacturer made options cost more than I want to spend on the kayak itself. Thanks!

The Watersnake 18lb thrust motor will push the PA at about 3MPH, depending on your weight and water conditions. You'll have to decide if that is enough for you. Few, if any trolling motors, even the larger 40lb and 50lb models, will ever push it at much more than about 4.2 MPH.

No, you can use the same one on all the Hobie boats, but will have to put a slip joint on the downtube so you can set the horizontal mount tube just below the hull seam. The Pro Angler is easy because the hull turns up so it's not anywhere near as critical. The motor post simply attaches to a clamp, similar to what you'd use to fasten electrical conduit pipe to a wall.

Michael JedinySorry no, but it's just PVC and a couple conduit clamps. If you follow the subsequent videos I made on the subject you can see exactly what pieces I'm using. Good luck.

+1 Better than the Idea I was thinking of. I was also thinking of a mount using rod holder for my side imaging set. This look much better, seeing you could modify this too hold the transducer and move it from kayak to kayak. I have a pro angler for fishing and a Revo 11 which I would like to use for scouting new water. Whats the chance of getting the specs on the mount? Cheers Garth

Ah that makes sense. So the universal hobie rod holders are not so unversal. I would have to moake on for my pro angler and another for revo 11? What did you do to attach it to mount. It looked like you lost all the transom mount gear on the trolling motor. Thanks Garth

Yes, that's how you do it. The motor is locked in place and you steer with the rudder.

I think it would but not having that motor or that much weight in mine I don't want to state emphatically that it would.

I'm sure there's a simple way to do it, but without your motor it would be hard for me to come up with anything I could have confidence in. It'd just be a guess.

Unfortunately that won't help you - none of these plastic hulls are verbatim in dimensions. Even being off 1/4 inch is the difference between having a motor that locks itself in place and one that climbs out of the rod holder. What you need to do is build yours to fit your own hull. The centerline of the lower horizontal mount tube should be set just below the hull seam. Not too far, but just below. This will prevent the motor from climbing out when under power.
