That’s awesome. I got some aluminum street signs in the garage that the city worker gave me when he was replacing them with new ones. I am glad I didn’t order the boonedox rudders yet. Thank you sir! Definitely subscribed.

Good mod and a good video. Suggest to use CNC machine to cut the ally plate (can just take it to a work shop that has one)

I live on the ESVA so I fish a lot of the same water you do. Let me just say I love how you're a DIY-er who is not annoying about it and the price stuff. Sure $50 isn't bad to pay for a new and improved rudder but if you've got the parts laying around and enjoy making what's yours, why not take a rainy day to improve the fishing rig? I rewired my Yamaha 115 tilt-trim for the fun of it, simply because I refused to pay almost $200 for a new relay. Also love the Snap-On tool chest, but again, I'm also someone who enjoys doing things myself. There really is a sense of pride in it. Look forward to seeing how the new rudder does!

I agree completely. I have always been a fix it myself type of person, hence the reason I own so many tools. I also was a powersports mechanic for about 10 years earlier in my life. So that is where all the Snap On tools came from. When they would show up with that shiny truck full of tools it was like an ice cream truck when you where a kid lol!

I make my Rudders out of 3" PVC pipe heated flat then cut any shape out of it and heat bend it in any angle needed. Cheaper than aluminum and no chance of bending it. You can use 2" or smaller PVC for thinner projects. Well, we don't know if it worked... 2 years later searched your Chanel no update on it. Nice build though!

I like the idea of using aluminum instead of plastic for the rudder..my concern is bigger is always better most or the time…but going too big might cause too much stress on the plastic rudder shaft..do you see any trouble using yours ? Thanks Tom

Hey Jesse, I love the kayak videos why did you surface sand the rudder? What does that do for it?
@SouthernReelsFishing3 жыл бұрын
There were some small dents and dings in the sheet of aluminum. Plus if I paint it the paint would adhere better

It's a shame that a 3k + yak has such a lousy rudder which bends within a short amount of time (doesn't help also the placement of it when your yak drops with no rudder protector). If anything this is one of the key pieces I would recommend anyone to replace new or old with a thicker aluminum one.
@SouthernReelsFishing3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I didnt like the design from day one of owning the yak. I actually talked about it a lot in my initial review
