I tried both the Outback and the Revo 13 out on open water and the Revo was much faster to accelerate and there was none of the hull slap that is very pronounced with the Outback. For traveling a distance or for sailing the Revo is the better boat. The advantage of the Outback is for 100% fishing and going shorter distances where its side trays are very handy and the round storage compartment in front of the seat can be converted to a Pro Angler hatch to hold several small Plano tackle boxes. There is also a size factor for the user. Someone with a big butt is going to feel very confined on the Revo and be a lot more comfortable on the wider Outback. This is why it is important to buy from a dealer where you can try them both before making a purchase. I had to drive 90 miles to get to a dealer where I could do this.

I own both kayaks and the only advantage the revo has its a little faster, i would not choose to take the revo offshore or in really rough waters over the outback, in general i think the outback is a better kayak

I've watched all of your Hobie video's and I think they are great! Even though I live in the UK they give just the right amount of useful information on handling and stability and suitability for different usage, I've decided on saving for a revolution 13 a couple of months ago, and I will demo one soon, but the video has confirmed that it would be my best choice !

I’m a little hazy on why you choose the rev for offshore fishing? I’ll be honest I’m not much of a fisherman myself, but I thought you’d want the stability the outback provides.

I have a Revolution 11, and I love it. I probably should have bought the 13.

hey there - many thanks for this informative review of 2014 - I'd like to see where the new Hobie Compass fits in now - it looks a little more stable than the Revo but faster than the Outback so if you have a spare moment .. just saying

Hi Tube Rider, as we did not receive the Compass until mid November in Australia, we are still creating a comparison video..should not be too far away. Thanks for your comments. David

Great video, realise this was done some time go but would you still recommend the Revolution for general purpose touring medium distances and fishing in rivers, estuaries as well as in the ocean chop? And is there any build quality difference between the two?

Nice video. Thanks. I'm very new to kayak fishing. I wanted to start fishing in lakes and ponds and then venture into ocean. Is Hobie Revolution 13 a good kayak to start with?

Great video. I’m 5.10 & 200lb dude. Have been debating between outback and Revo 13. Can’t decide which one is better for me. I’m planning to take my kayak to saltwater and deal with big swells and waves but I’m also going to fish rivers and lakes. Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated

I am more of a sailor than a kayaker. My goal is speed. I should have bought the Revolution 13 instead of the Outback. It appears to be a much faster boat and cuts though waves better making sailing a more enjoyable experience. I feel my wider Outback goes over the waves rather than slicing through them. It is designed more for stability than speed.

Hi Ronald, depending on distance and travelling offshore into blue water, the Revolution 16 is worth a test drive as well. The after market drop in dagger board on the 16 makes for stable sailing.David

I just recently bought a new Hobie Revolution 13 and it seems to flip over very easy. When I tried to do like the lady did by rocking it, it flipped quickly with not too much of a rocking motion. I have flipped it twice. Looking to get some sidekicks to keep from flipping. Do I just need more experience or is this not normal. Have seen people say it is stable but not for me. This is my first kayak, but regretting getting the Revo at this stage.
@Rodbendingsworld7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dale, are you using the Mirage with the pedals side by side. (fins will point towards the bottom of the waterway) It works like a small dagger board. Also when moving around your kayak, keep your core straight and square with the bow and stern and if sitting sideways, spin your hips first not your shoulders to change positions. I hope this helps. David
@DaleStagg7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I have not tried the sitting sideways, but only straight so far. I tried to enter the kayak one time from a low dock where it flipped me. I was in and adjusting when it flipped. Another time, i was rocking it to learn limits in my pool and flipped. This all makes me gun shy for fishing from it. Yes, it is the revo 13 with the 180 pedels and really moves. I ordered the side kicks and can now move around without any problem, but would like to use my kayak someday without training wheels. Overall, it is a great kayak, but narrow enough to make much more unstable than other wider models. My son has a foot pedal kayak that has small propeller to power his and he can stand in his. I have a hard time sitting in mine and feel comfortable in mine without side kicks and especially with boat wakes in area. You make the revo so steady however.

I have just brought a hobie mirage sport it would be over 10 years old but never been used. I used it for the first time over the weekend and tipped it twice. I find the stability shit. Very unhappy with my purchase

I'm deciding between these two yaks. I live in central Florida and fish at new Smyrna and port Canaveral so the conditions are usually pretty choppy. I found a deal on the out back with turbo fins for 1200$ and a deal on the revo for 1000$ with turbo fins as well. They are both in great condition. I also want to speed along inshore fishing and go a decent ways offshore to the reefs which are about 6 miles out. I'm a strong and in shape young man so stamina isn't a huge issue. I was wondering what your thoughts are on my situation. Thanks
@Rodbendingsworld7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tomas, the Outback is a stable and suitable for estuaries , rivers and inlets. Offshore 6 miles is a concern to me. The Revolution 13 will travel the 6 miles offshore but if offshore fishing is a major focus of your fishing, I would also consider the Revolution 16..now that is a speed machine and will handle offshore conditions with turbo fins and a large rudder. Safety offshore should be at the top of the list when considering your hull choice and if possible, I would test both kayaks (Revolution 13 and 16) and then make your choice. Hope that is of assistance. David
@TK-2Quick7 жыл бұрын
Rod Bendings World - Fishing & Beach Stuff now why is offshore in the outback a concern considering it is wider and thicker which would make it more stable. I'm just wondering because I'm trying to find the most versatile and safe kayak to get. I also found a revo 16 for 1300$ like new with turbo drive so which would you consider for offshore and inshore use?
@Rodbendingsworld7 жыл бұрын
Hey Tomas...yes the Outback is stable, but the beefy hull design gets to it's width quickly off the bow. If you get an offshore wind chop, it will slap through it...the Revolution 13 and 16 will punch through it. This is based on Southern Australian conditions. Not to say, when you have perfect offshore conditions, the Outback will be fine fishing. To sum up, when you look at the hull shape of a sea kayak, it is more in line with the Revolution 16 and it is for long distance open water kayaking. David
@TK-2Quick7 жыл бұрын
Rod Bendings World - Fishing & Beach Stuff thanks for your fast responses. I'm going with the revo 16 cause it's stable enough for what I need and will fit offshore better. I also like that light and manageable for me. Thank you for informing me. Cheers

Why pay that much for the revo and only be able to carry 350 lbs.? Outback or Native Titan.
@Rodbendingsworld7 жыл бұрын
Hi William, different purposes..Revo longer trips and handles wind chop in open water..Outback is for shorter trips in protected waterways. And the Outback carries more gear. David
