Great video, realise this was done some time go but would you still recommend the Revolution for general purpose touring medium distances and fishing in rivers, estuaries as well as in the ocean chop? And is there any build quality difference between the two?

I have just brought a hobie mirage sport it would be over 10 years old but never been used. I used it for the first time over the weekend and tipped it twice. I find the stability shit. Very unhappy with my purchase

The Revo 13 has a number of drawbacks you left out. It may be one of the lightest pedal kayaks, but a 13-foot kayak that weighs 70 pounds (without the seat or drive) is not light. My 16-foot Kaskazi Marlin weighs 48 pounds. That is light. To avoid hull cracking they made the plastic in this kayak very thick, soft and flexible so even though it is heavy it scratches and cuts much easier than most plastic kayaks. It handles extremely poorly without the rudder. You have to battle to keep it going in a straight line. And you can't use the hand-controlled rudder when you are paddling. That means it paddles very poorly. The hatches leak like crazy. Although most kayak hatches leak a little the Hobie is the worst I have ever seen. The warranty is one of the worst of any kayak even though the price is extremely high. These are things you should know.

@@waynehamilton5248 I ve got a narrow sit in kayak I sail with a Falcon sail, butt clenching, weigth shifting and paddle bracing are my gotto technics, don t think I can do that in a Revo because with a sit in I am locked as one with the kayak, if I braced in a Revo I would just end up going one way and the kayak the other way

lots of unhelpful comments here, I found it very informative as I am contemplating buying a kayak and have a mazda BT50, so this has shown me how its done and I guess if the Kayak weighs a max of 40 kgs, then you are only lifting 20 kgs at any one time, thanks for the video.

The 2022 models come with the Mirage 180 drive with kickup fins standard, camo comes with turbo fins. That makes it an obvious choice for me, since I transport it on top of my Jeep where the light weight is important!

In my 2nd hand hobie revo 13 kayak I've found that I've got a crack in the hull where the mirage-drive sits in the kayak. It's just under the bolt that holds the mirage drive. I did a bit of research and it seems it could be an issue. The hull started filling up when I was on the water last time and I used my bilge pump a few times.

Thanks for taking the time to put this informative video together. Two queries if I may. I've seen a new Hobie called the passport. It looks similar. Do you know the difference? Also, where does this leave the Revo? Meaning, does the Revo still have some role, and if so where does it shine?
@Rodbendingsworld
@Rodbendingsworld 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay in responding. The Passport series is Thermo formed and designed for the budget conscious. Produced in sheets and pressed on a hot mold. The other models are roto-molded...higher grade of plastic, more features of the kayak are in the mold with minimal self tapping. The Revolution still shines for recreation/fishing kayakers who paddle as well as pedal. It also suits light offshore conditions being sleeker and faster and dryer in wind chop due to the longer bow. Hope that helps. David
@tuberider1171
@tuberider1171 3 жыл бұрын
@@Rodbendingsworld thanks for that - very informative - I would never have guessed there was a difference in the manufacturing process. Sounds like the Compass is good for calmer conditions where standing may be desirable. And the Revo for light off-shore fishing where the compromise over standing is better handling of choppier water. Still there are times when I'd dearly like to stand. Thank god for those drainage holes! Its comforting to know my Revo 13 is not redundant although I did wonder if the longer Adventurer (16ft) would be even more suited to light off-shore fishing. Interested in your thoughts. I've heard they are more tippy than the Revo 13.
@Rodbendingsworld
@Rodbendingsworld 3 жыл бұрын
@@tuberider1171 Spot on with the Compass. The Revo 13 has been my pick of all round kayak since it's introduction to the range. The Revo 16 (old Adventure) may feel like it is a bit tippy to say someone has has used an Outback or wider kayak, but with the use of the drop in dagger board, problem solve when going across swell or wind. And sorry to say, we have been advised that the Revo 16 will no longer be manufactured. David

Just received my wife's 2020 Revo 13. Mine is an outback. Big difference in stability. First time I took out the Revo I went over twice. I will definitely lower the seat (i'm 220 lbs) and travel light. Also, I believe if you have a sail it makes it move top heavy and very difficult to turn back over. I am ordering the AMA sidekicks because I don't trust it not to roll over again. I will also recommend the knob for the turning handle. Definitely faster and lighter than the outback.
