Hey I’m Japanese and it is nice to see someone outside of Japan enjoy hobonichi!! I want to give it a try using hobonichi so I was getting inspiration from KZbin and found you:) I am currently doing MA degree and I’d love to know how you use hobonichi as a graduate student! (I know you already have a video about it but want to know more about it!) Do you use it as a thesis writing planner?

Thank you so much for watching and I'm so glad I could provide some insight as you choose a planner! A few notes on how I used planners as a student -- In my undergraduate and my graduate programs I found that the Hobonichi Weeks style of weekly layout, with the days on one side and a blank memo paper on the other side, was the ideal planner for me to plan out semesters and keep track of homework. (I used a similarly styled planner from Moterm in my undergrad.) Neither of my programs had a thesis; instead we had capstone projects, which don't involve a paper but involve some sort of project development and creation. For my most recent graduate capstone, I was in the Hobonichi Cousin because the extra space on the daily pages gave me SO much space to write down all of the tasks I needed to accomplish daily, which were very numerous! Most of my essays and homework planning work was just done in a blank notebook, and then important tasks and deadlines were transferred into one of the two planners depending on what it entailed. You could probably do this portion of the work in the memo pages of the Weeks, or, if in the extra space in the Cousin. I hope this helped! I'm going to make a video sometime soon about the planners that got me through college and graduate school, but that's my advice if you are pressed for time and looking to buy!

I ordered the same two weeks. I ordered mon oncle from Jet Pens as it was sold out on the Hobonichi site; ordered the champagne gold from Hobonichi. A note of interest: the drawing on the back of mon oncle is illustrating twirling spaghetti.

Hi Trix! I do use my smartphone but mainly for the monthly calendar. My plans change SO much especially for work that it's just not worth writing down appointments in my planner in pen. Maybe I'll make a whole hybrid system video someday....?

I had to pause when you mentioned panicking and only getting the one ruler because you really wanted the weeks covers you chose. I can totally relate! I don't think I have ever had so much anxiety trying to buy something online in my life! Admittedly, this is my first time ordering my hobonichi's directly from the hobonichi site, and wow. I thought I had it all figured out and had already went through and heart everything that I wanted to get in advance. But then as soon as everything dropped, I couldn't get my cart to load! I kept clicking to add things and it wasn't letting me because of the high traffic. At one point I finally got into my cart and I had clicked the items so many times that I had multiple of the same thing in there and other items were missing! So I was trying to remove the duplicates, and then my entire cart was empty! I was so stressed out that I only got the planners and covers that I wanted with just two of those sticker roller accessories. Definitely wish I would have added more, but I already spent an outrageous amount of money and didn't even care! I had no time for conversion, I just went for it! My delivery still hasn't arrived, but you give me hope that it should be here soon!

I have never had a zip cover for my Hobonichis, and last year I fell in love with the ohayo (gray) and I didn't even know it existed until months after the drop so of course it was sold out. I was so obsessed I was searching every online store I could find, but to no avail. Well, they brought it back so I snagged that plus the Cousin in English and I thought the Malhia Kent: Mauve Tweed was gorgeous and would look amazing with the light purple mega weeks - so I got both of those as well! Here's hoping I don't get them and find out I actually don't like zip covers haha!

Honestly I'm curious too 😂 For my weeks this year, it sort of became my work planner and many of the yearly and monthly sections were taken over completely by work planning, which didn't leave much space for personal, even though I did have room in the actual weekly part. So I've got two now! My goal is to keep them in the same planner case so that it FEELS like one planner but it's actually two haha. I'll definitely film a set up!

Thanks for the link to the Hobonichi store. The prices are extremely reasonable. Did you have to pay any duty or customs fees when your package was delivered?

I did not! I live in the US and had no extra fees on top of what I paid through the store. I did have a niiiiiiiiice $30 shipping fee though.

Okay, I am so happy for you. You could use the bag as a shoe bag when traveling. Or a cube for packing. If the colors do bother you again, I would suggest the Day Free, which is really the A5 size I prefer. As for the color of the box, it changes every year. I think 2019 for the 2020 season, was the green one. 2020 the box was yellow, and then the pink, and now the dark red. Which is why people seem to collect the boxes as much as the collection of planner covers. If you love the sterling ink planner, then maybe stick with their planner. I do not think I will be getting the planner this year, since I am at the time between university and finding a job.

Thanks so much! The mon oncle actually feels like a sort of linen texture but with plastic coating. So not quite like fabric - more like a very thick, high quality linen cardstock. I regularly deal with linen cardstock all the time because I collect decks of cards, so I should have clarified! Champagne feels like paper, smooth but with some texture, a bit less sturdy feeling and I would definitely recommend a plastic cover so the edges don't get ruined. That said, it is very nice to the touch.

@@sonja2477 Ah wonderlands are such a good alternative to hobonichi, especially the undated one. I'm linking my undated Wonderland A5 so far. I heard that the spring release is scheduled to start when Japanese schools starts, sort of like how western academic planners start in September! So you'd kind of be getting the same experience 😂

Travel laundry bag, shoe packing bag, or fruits and veggie bag for groceries. It is not the same fabric as the gift bags. The English Planner does not have the time line on the side, the three check box up top. The date box is bigger, and the moon phase is where the three check boxes are. The grid size is larger also in the English planner. On the side of the English Planner they have the noon time halfway down the grid, and Fork and a knife, two rows from the bottom. Plus a lighter line 2 grid boxes from the right. Besides the English quotes. Like I mentioned to you before, I prefer color in my life since my ADHD likes to see something a bit different before I lose interest. This is why I am going with the English cousin.

I'm still forcing me to write on it bc hobonichi is a bit 💸💸💸 haha, so I don't want to waste it. But I got a weekly one for next year and I can't wait to start using it!! Is there a difference in fonts in between the Japanese and the English version? I am plannin on gettin the April start weeks next year and will probably get the Japanese one since neither of the languages are my native language.

There is not a font difference! There are some small size changes to accommodate for the switch from kanji to the Latin alphabet, but the change is negligible.

Hoboni hi did sell out of the champagne weeks. It took me like 45 minutes to get my order together on sept 1 and it was sold out. I could not buy one.

The english version of the A6 has a different design and does not have colors. Weeks and cousin english vs japanese are basically the same design with just different language.
