The number one thing no one ever talks about on how to hockey stop videos is the hollow on your blades. If you are having a hard time executing a hockey stop then play around with different hollows. This was my number one biggest problem in trying to learn a hockey stop and it was so bad that I actually gave up and instead played roller hockey for years. It wasn't until recently that I tried to tackle ice skating and get into ice hockey again. I had always gone on the base advice to get my skates sharpened at a half inch........ What a mistake that was. 1/2 in was entirely too much bite for me and resulted in crazy sounds and chattering every time I tried to hockey stop and I could completely forget about shuffling as a goalie with that hollow on my blades. Once I started experimenting I discovered that 9/16 was the sweet spot for me. Now I can hockey stop and shuffle almost effortlessly. It's amazing how many videos there are talking about the proper techniques on how to do a hockey stop but almost no one talks about the hollow on your skate blades which is just as important if not more important than your technique. If the hollow on your skates is wrong for you all you're doing is wasting time trying to perfect technique. You need to start with the right hollow for yourself and then work on your skating skills.
