They wrestled quite a while and the crowd was hoping that Robinson could just hold on. When he suddenly landed a hard right, people were shocked. Then he did it again and yet again. Once Robinson really started pummeling Schultz, the Flyers realized what was happening and jumped in as they always did. It was a total mismatch. Robinson was tough and super strong on his skates. Robinson is the best 2-way Dman in the hisotry of the nhl, absolutely no doubt. He puts a lot of ink on the score sheet, look at his plus minus, hits hard and clean even by today's standarts, and we can see here that he can fight against the best fighters out there.
@amecarethqc66528 жыл бұрын
filmnoir2019 Exactly. While I'm sure Orr had good defensive reflexes, he still was known for being an offensive d-man (and holy shiit he was good at that ;) ) and that's mostly his godlike sense of scoring that gave him that +/-.
@russelljdj7 жыл бұрын
Robinson was Great, But he was no Robert Gordon Orr. Even he knows that. Try and be real.
@amecarethqc66527 жыл бұрын
Max Power And I think I'm "real", like you say yourself since I never said that Robinson was better overall than Bobby. The fact that Robinson said that shows that he's not selfish, the same way Orr was, I'm surd of it. It's obvious and nobody that's mentally healthy will deny that Orr completely changed hockey, something that Robinson never did in his entire life.

I remember Mr. Robinson letting a player on the LA Kings think he was going to get by him and he just crushed him into the boards. I was a Huge Bruins fan back in the day, and inspite of he and those Canadian's teams running my life, I loved watching those dudes play.
@dietpepsivanilla30957 жыл бұрын
Larry never tried to be Orr. Larry's job was to play defense and get the occasional score. Orr was a better scorer and one of the greatest, no doubt, but I'll take Larry on defense over Orr any day.

Oh do I remember this.... I loved every second of it, after Larry Robinson "schooled" Schultz on the art of fighting...! Schultz a goon in the truest sense and Robinson a great D man and still has the best plus minus of any player whoever played..! Love Larry Robinson a great hockey player and teammate!... The Flyers were about fighting first, not hockey.. It was an attempt to completely intimidate the other team..! It was lousy hockey..! And Clarke one of the dirtiest players ever in the NHL.. !

You got to know the whole story. Dave Schultz was one of the better goal scorers in Juniors. No fights. Then he happened to get into a couple of fights and then, on the poster at the stadium promoting the next game, he and Andre DuPont. also someone who had amassed a fighting record, were pictured next to each other. Flash forward to a brand new Flyers organization, founded 1967. The story goes Barclay Plager, among others, beat the hell out of the Flyers. So Flyers' owner Ed Snider decided we might lose, but we don't have to get beat up doing it. so he drafted for size. In 1972, my first NHL game live, there was none of this, and there was a mediocre crowd for a game that would decide if the Flyers made the playoffs. Two years later, my next live game, a packed 17,007 was at every game, and when a fight broke out a roar went up in the crowd. I thought the crowd was mad they were delaying the game. We could only see away games on tv back then. All I ever saw was opposing fans booing and throwing things on the ice at us. But the Flyers packed every arena they played. Dave Schultz would fight anyone, keep fighting after the ref stepped in, kick stuff on the ice, go into infantile tantrums. He lost more fights than you think. But he said, "People might think I'm crazy, but I'm trying to make a living." Another two years later, an upper circle was added. Then it was 17,077 at every game. I never liked him or the fights. They were a scrappy hard working team when they weren't acting juvenile. But I'm not 10 anymore and I understand the business angle a little better. Ironicly, we watched pro wrestling every Saturday and laughed at the mayhem. I never made the connection. I still think it's a disgrace Schultz is in the Flyers Hall of Fame.

Goon squad mentality Flyers. Even Bobby Clarkes vicious chop on Kharlamov was low class. Its embarrassing to me as a Canadian hockey fan, that guy had to resort to the tactics of a thug cuz they thought they couldnt stop the Russians and Kharlamov otherwise. Clarke was a great player, but things that he and the Flyers did were low class, and lacked integrity
