How to Pivot in Hockey

The ability to pivot properly in each direction can make or break a hockey player--especially a defenseman. Don't get us wrong, we still believe that both forwards and defensemen should be able to perform all the fundamental skating skills, but deficiencies in backward skating and pivots can be more easily hidden on forward than on defense.

Great video, very detailed! Some teaching points I like to mention when covering these is to always have a blade pointing down ice. I see some players rotate their blades and they fall, or slow down a lot. For the backwards one just like you mentioned it's important to stay low. With a good knee bend backwards, to forwards you can accelerate in the last step, but only if the glide leg is bent. I'm liking these new videos in the basement.
