I Love poetry I listen to this as many others because poetry comes from our inner soul to share with the world. I wrote a poetry book after having two strokes last year. I wish to share with the world as so many with podcasts etc talking about my poetry and struggle to get to who I am today is a blessing. Thank you for this.

really powerful interview. very intelligent in the connections and imagery she is painting. breaks any sort of negative stigma that may surround her with profound idealism.

Joy is one of those poets I really wanted to know more about. This is a great interview, she is such an inspiration. It's nice to know that there are other reluctant poets out there, yet we are drawn to it.

Joy Harjo is such an inspiration to me and the first poet whose words and spirit I've fallen in love with and connect to spiritually. Thank you for the insightful interview

+LetsAskMichio Dear Michio, I'm so glad you connected with Joy. She was an amazing reader for us, and so deserved her Wallace Stevens award last year. You might be interested in our programs featuring Edgar Silex or Jane Hirshfield, other poets that are also spiritual in their approach.

Thanks so much, Sandra, I'm glad you enjoyed it. You're right, Joy and Barbara had a great chemistry. Try one of our other shows, perhaps poet Li-Young Lee, or maybe Lucille Clifton. We tend to have terrific interviewers, since they're poets or novelists themselves.

Thanks so much -- we're glad you enjoyed the show. Harjo is as thoughtful and spirited as she seems on the video. If you enjoyed this show, try The Writing Life with W. S. Merwin, who is a poet of nature who lives in Hawaii and talks about humans' relationship with nature. Blessings to you.

I am glad I saw that she was coming to Macon, Georgia the other day when I saw that she was doing to poetry readings yesterday. I went to the one at the Ocumulgee Indian Mounds that just last year became a National Historic Monument. Joy Harjo recently became the first Native American to become the National Poet Laurete. I am so glad I got to meet her and listen to her and buy one of her books. I bought the poetry book many of her readings last evening. She has a warning message for the United States right now, if only more could listen to her and be able to make sure we don't repeat the Trail of Tears with the immigrants in our Country right now. It is not too late to change the path were on.

There's nothing to be afraid with our own culture, I strongly feel that we were created by one, there's no fear of someone liking me or not it's me

@@dorotheasantiago9037 I have a lot of pride in my background as an African American. I wonder sometimes why blacks don't have as much pride in their race or culture. All I hear that is negative saddens me but I am black and proud.

Would have wanted to hear her speak more about her views on Native American history, colonialism, and current issues. Her poems speak to these ideas, of course, but the interviewer missed an opportunity to probe along those lines.

Thank you, Sheila. We really are a literary talk show, so we're concerned with the interpretation of work, but I absolutely see your point.
