Well, Mr. Frisby wasn't doing harm when he was telling whoppers to his friends because they knew him well enough to know that he was making up stories to be entertaining. However, he should've been more careful when he was telling his stories to complete strangers because that got him into trouble. In the end, no one believed him when he told a true story for once. However, even if he never did tell a tall tale in his life, I doubt anyone would've believed his story about the aliens.

As Walter said, this is one of those episodes where the lead actor's performance really makes the episode. You can't get a better loud-mouthed yet likable blowhard than Andy Devine, especially with that memorable rusty foghorn of a voice he had.

It's refreshing knowing that a show has an episode that focuses on a liar and not have the message be "lying is bad." Ok, you can argue that is the message of this episode, but Frisby isnt punished at the end and his friends give him a trophy for lying and want to hear one of his tales.
@melissacooper8724
@melissacooper8724 9 ай бұрын
To be fair, not all lying is bad. Frisby was only telling fantasies to his friends and they like him because he is a friendly man. And they enjoy his fictional stories. The only time lying is a bad thing is when a person does it to hurt others.

Finally, I found a place to watch full episodes for free. It was on Amazon Prime the whole time! With that being said, this is a charming episode. Usually, these kinds of tellers of tall tales are written like the town bum, but no, he's well liked, and his stories are treated as good fun. I do think some parts were silly like the aliens being defeated by a harmonica, but the lighthearted nature is the whole point.

This episode is notable as its cast featured several very big TV names of the time, most notably Andy Devine, Milton Selzer, Peter Brocco and Clem Bevans. This in general contrast to most episodes, which either featured largely unknown actors or mixed established stars with relative unknowns. Despite having a relatively small role in this episode, Peter Brocco was by far the biggest star in this episode, with career spanning 60 years and many famous movies, including Spartacus and One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest.

Another episode where the Twilight zone benefited from MGM's large amount of stock props. The domed device on the alien craft is the 'astrogator' from Forbidden Planet. The cruiser C-57-D's steps are also used in the ship. At 21:20 the console seen on the alien spacecraft is the same one used at times in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.'s headquarters as Mr. Waverly's overseas relay communicator console.

Andy Devine was a longtime comic relief in old Westerns, and had a VERY familiar voice on TV and radio at the time, for better or worse.
