For the full story of the 41mm Rolex Submariner go to: www.hodinkee.c...
Dive watch, tool watch, sport watch...the Rolex Submariner is all of these things. If you trace it back to its roots you’ll find a timepiece that defied its underwater branding to become something else entirely: A stone-cold icon on dry land.
Naysayers often grouse that the Submariner is too common, that it's an uninspired choice, that it’s basically a cliche. None of that is true. But the thing is popular, and that’s because it’s good. And has been for decades.

Great watch, though the video missed the mark I think. The middle portion was fine, but could've done without the staged meetup thing. Just keep it simple and informative with some pretty b-roll mixed in like it used to be. The Tudor GMT video was the pinnacle of this series tbh

I don’t mind them being a retailer. In fact, done right it would further an argument they made long ago that they aren’t biased, they simply only talk about watches they appreciate and like. Hodinkee has become an absolute circlejerk. Literally every single watch they review is without fault. How is the submariner switching to a 21mm lug width an advantage? 20mm has been the defacto standard lug width and it makes finding straps easy. This switch is going to make it significantly more difficult to find straps.

Yesterday I bought this watch and I still can’t believe it . First Rolex at 20 and the AD gave me the opportunity when I was initially waiting for an Air-King . Truly a magnificent and elegant historic piece . Never give up guys, I didn’t and I ended up with a Sub !

How long did it take of being on the waiting list roughly to get the call? I’m on the list for a submariner, airking or Milgauss but not sure if I’m better going with an Omega for my first watch. I’m also 20 and have no previous buying experience

@@PTR2K I was originally on the list for an Air-King but ended up buying an Omega AquaTerra so I told my AD to disregard my order and asked for my deposit back. 2 years later I said F it and I had to buy the Air-King this time for sure so I went with them and told them . Only thing is they called me for a Sub no date (124060), and asked me if I was interested and I couldn’t say no . So in reality I was on the “list” for roughly 4 months. If you choose an Omega instead, they’re magnificent pieces but I would urge you to not get one for the same reason I did; Impatience . Ideally I suggest establishing a relationship with your AD even though you have never bought anything off of them . Lmk if you need any more tips . God bless

@@disfatbidge4509 I am torn on what to do because the AD I went to is a Rolex Boutique so I am not sure if I am better going somewhere else which doesnt just sell rolex. They kept telling me that they have to time scale on when I would get one (which is understandable) but I dont want to be waiting for years then never get offered one. Im thinking of going for the Omega Speedmaster instead but I am scared that if I buy the Omega I'll get the call from Rolex the next day xD

When you exist to sell something, and there have been enough instances where you don't sell that something, it's easy to get mad. Retail for the watch is around $8k, but you're never going to get the watch at that price unless you "know somebody" or go second hand and pay $12k. That's why people get mad. Watching this right now May 2023 seems weird with everyone wearing mask, I never want to deal with Covid ever again. especially the outbreak. Nice video on the Submariner 124060 it's lovely and I enjoy mine. Watches and my own collection made all the difference during covid it's the one thing that help me stay focus and stay sane.

What i've realised about Hodinkee is, 95% of their staff are beard sporting Hipsters with instagram accounts for their photography. They don't represent the kind of people like Austin, Bark & Jack, Archie, Clive. They're just a bunch of flannel shirt wearing middle class graphic designers. I don't like them, never have

Sorry guys but this video was a little underwhelming and so was the watch to be honest. I'm now reassured that my recently discontinued GMT LN Master 2 is better than this piece and my Tudor Black Bay blue ETA is more interesting. Time to buy the new Speedmaster.

Meh...the 3135 didn't really need to be replaced IMO. It didn't have the power reserve of some of the other 70+ hour movements other makers had been using, but its ruggedness, durability, and its long service intervals were and are really unparalleled (it's something that isn't discussed enough). I think Rolex updated it mainly because everyone kept saying it was an outdated movement due to its power reserve, even though its technical design was and is just stellar.

Mad late on this - the Submariner has been over-reviewed by so many channels already and Rolex is getting kinda boring. People don’t know what it’s like to have OTHER watches on the wrist. Rolex is so predictable based on how it’s overplayed and overhyped without any innovation like Omega or Seiko.
